R is for ROBEAR BERBIL. #alphabeasts
Between Mother Boxes, Quintessons and now Robear Berbils, I'm noticing a trend in my alphabeasting of choosing cybernetic creatures. Robear Berbils are a species from the Thundercats cartoons. They're exactly what they sound like: cute, robotic bears that talk in a monotone vibration. I loved this cartoon when I was a kid and the 2011 series has been really satisfying as well. So much so that I decided to use the updated Robear design for this drawing. They can now roll up into little travel balls.
Lesson learned from this week's alphabeast: keep it simple stupid and go with your gut. I initially had an idea to do a three-point perspective illustration of a Robear village exploding, with a Robear Berbil leaping off a tower and turning into a ball during its descent. It felt overly ambitious, especially with the other projects on my plate. But I decided to try anyway. I got 30 minutes into roughing that version out when I realized it wasn't working and would take hours of anxiety to fulfill. So I switched to this simpler drawing. I'm much happier with the result.
