Captain Robert DeSoto: Captain, U.S.S. Hood. Was William T. Riker’s former commanding officer prior to his assignment on the Enterprise in 2364. Both had an easygoing professional relationship as Captain and First Officer. Lt. Cmdr Riker served in that capacity for three years before he accepted a promotion and posting to the Enterprise. The Hood rendezvoused with the Enterprise at Farpoint station, dropping off Commander Riker and several other personnel to the new Galaxy-class vessel. In 2366 met up with the Enterprise again to drop off mission specialist Tam Elbrum as well as new orders from Starfleet.
Captain DeSoto appeared in the TNG episode “Tin Man” although the Hood was first seen in “Encounter at Farpoint”
Didn’t even recognize ole Robert DeSoto till I google this actor.
Too bad we never see Robert DeSoto again, I really like the guy (and being Will’s former CO you can see where some of that easygoing nature comes from). Thankfully the novelverse makes good use of him.
