In Anangu culture the word Milkali blood is a very sensitive word and can be used offesively but in this painting Milkali kutju means one blood. It is about Indigenous and non Indigenous working alongside one another and learning and sharing two different cultures, Ngapartji - Ngapartji : 50-50.
It doesn’t matter what color or race we are, it’s about what’s below the surface: Milkali blood: that we are there for one another and that life is too short to allow grey scales to come between us as a culture.
We can learn from one another, and by moving forward, by closing the gaps and not blaming one another for our forefather’s actions, whether they were good or bad choices.
In this painting you will see a lot of colours, our mind will tell us what we only want to see but in this painting there are only two colours: black and white and below the surface, different shades of red.
Whenever you look at this painting appreciate what we have, because it’s only for a short period of time.
