Amazing Stories, July 1950, cover by Robert Gibson

When the Rock 'n Roll Express first began wrestling in 1983, they wore flamboyant shiny tights, like an athletic gym-bunny might've worn to her Jazzercise class in those days.
Where I come from, a fella would've taken a beating for walking around town in shiny purple leggings (especially if his buddy was seen wearing a matching pair.) Their look made them appear skinny, effeminate, and vulnerable, which made their frequent beatings by the Midnight Express seem even more unfair and, therefore, enticing.
Here are scenes from an April 1984 episode of Mid-South Rasslin where Robert Gibson in his purple leggings suffers for a good while. Robert clearly has earned a Ph. D. with many extra credit hours in portraying the helpless hero.
Pro wrestling depicts the law of manhood: take whatever you want. Might makes right. If nobody can stop you, then it's yours to keep. Here, the Midnight Express take ownership of Robert Gibson's body and nobody can stop them.
