Hi! Didn't wanna bother you, but I was wondering because you briefly mentioned Hillary Cheng and Robert Lai, are they local (Hawaiian) in your AU? I just sorta realized that I always assumed Hillary specifically was hapa or something lol.
For story/thematic reasons, Hillary and Robert are not Hawaiian in my au. I want to emphasize Taonui's diaspora loneliness in my take, so he doesn't have much for Hawaiian community outside of his immediate family in America. In the process, I have reverse-engineered Hillary and Robert into being East Asian + Southeast Asian mixed via their surnames.
Taonui does cherish the two of them though! The National City Lion Dancers club specializes in the Southern Chinese style of Lion Dance, but Robert and Hillary went out of their way to learn Korean lion dance for Taonui. And he's forever grateful to them.
[Whenever Conner's not superhero-ing after school, he hangs out at the lion dance club before studying with Taonui. He swears it's because he has nothing better to do. And that he's just there to wait for Taonui and not to have more chances to look at Taonui.]
