Though they are not titled the Newbie family is of noble birth - Bob is the second son of second son - and as such retain a high social standing within Newcrest. In 1308 Bob's wife Betty was lost after a long and difficult labor. She held on for nearly a week giving birth to a stillborn daughter before she passed. Bob has only recently left mourning and might be on the lookout for a new bride to help raise his children.

As the eldest daughter Brandi feels the loss of her mother more keenly than the rest - mostly because she's expected to fill her mother's role in the household by minding her siblings, guiding and teaching them. She's also expected to maintain the house in general, to keep up with the accounting, manage the servants... it's overwhelming but she's trying her best.

Barbara came into the world early, a fragile child who was sickly and not expected to survive. With her mother weakened by the labor Barbara ended up being raised almost entirely in the house of her nursemaid for nearly six months before being returned to her family home. She was a fussy toddler but after being told to be quiet so many times she's become a very quiet girl who prefers her own company.

Robert Newbie, 5
Little Robert has always liked to do things on his own, throwing terrific tantrums if the adults in his life tried to assist in any way. As his father's namesake and the eldest son he is doted upon by Bob and the clear favorite.

The youngest Richard's birth was another difficult one and the midwife told Bob she suspected that it was Richard's birth that damaged Betty's health so badly ultimately leading to her death the next time she carried. As such Bob avoids the boy, spare or not. It's a good thing he's precocious and so sweet everyone else adores him.
