"Well, if it isn't my favourite group of thieves?" Reuben answered immediately after opening the door to his Vegas mansion. "What? You guys can't visit or call without needing a little money?"
After the dinner meeting, the three of you went over the blueprints of the vault Danny wanted to steal from. There, he revealed the banks he wanted to rob: the Bellagio, the Mirage, and the MGM Grand—all banks owned by Terry Benedict. After reviewing the plans, the three of you booked a trip to Vegas from L.A., ready to set the plans in motion.
"Come on, Reuben, you know you're our favourite millionaire." Danny jokes before stepping into his mansion, Rusty following after, greeting Reuben in his own way. After the two men walked in, Reuben turned to you with a smile.
"If it isn't my favourite Ocean, come here, kid." You chuckled softly before stepping forward to give the millionaire a big hug. "How you been, (y/n)?"
"Eh, same old same old. Nothing new." You shrugged after letting Reuben go. "How about you?" Reuben shrugged too.
"Casinos rise, casinos fall, it's the circle of life." You and Reuben made your way into the house as he talked.
"Oof, yeah, I heard about Benedict." At the mention of his name, Reuben immediately scoffed.
"He's the worst of them, let me tell you." Reuben grimaces while leading the three of you to his backyard. "Oh, I hope you guys didn't eat. I had Brian make us all lunch."
After heading into his backyard for lunch, Danny and Rusty baited Reuben into agreeing to the heist as a way to take revenge against Terry Benedict.
"You guys need a crew that is as crazy as you three are, so who do you have in mind?" Glancing at Danny, he smirked in response.
"Well, including you, we would have...how much Rusty?" Danny turns to his best friend, who shrugs in response.
"And I assume that the crew will be coming here, you freeloaders." Danny laughs in response to Reuben's quip.
"So, when should I be expecting these schmucks?"
"Been looking for you." Standing in Reuben's kitchen, you were pouring yourself a glass of water before Rusty walked in. You two, along with Danny, Reuben and Frank, were waiting for the rest of the crew to show up at Reuben's house.
"Sorry, I'm bored. I don't know what to do. I've asked Frank, like, twice, how life has been." You sighed, leaning against the countertop. Rusty chuckles and makes his way closer to you, and stops right in front of you. You crane your neck up to look at Rusty who is looking at you with anything but an innocent look in his eyes.
The good thing about Reuben's kitchen was that it was pretty isolated; the bad thing was that just beyond the doorway, there was an audience.
It's been about a couple of days since you had Rusty to yourself. With Danny coming back and planning and gathering the other members of the heist, you and Rusty rarely had a moment alone without the fear of being interrupted.
"Mhm, come here." Rusty muttered softly before grabbing your waist to pull you closer. With a surprised giggle, you leaned up to kiss Rusty as he pulled you closer. This kiss quickly was turning into something more as Rusty softly pushed you against the counter, gripping your waist a bit more as he kissed you with more ferocity. Gasping into the kiss at the pressure, you pulled him even closer.
"Missed you so much," Rusty muttered just after the two of you pulled apart for air. Gasping, you nodded in response, too winded to talk, but still wanting to continue kissing. When you caught your breath, you pulled Rusty back in, him chasing your lips with a smile.
If you were to ask how Rusty these past few days were like, he would say it was absolute hell. What was worse for Rusty than not being yours was knowing he could touch and kiss you but couldn't. Every time the two of you would have a moment alone, something or someone would interrupt you two. Rusty was at his wits' end, and he was going to go insane if he didn't have a moment alone with you right this second. So, seeing you in the kitchen, Rusty was about to fall to his knees and thank the lord for blessing him.
Easing back into the kiss, Rusty wanted to be closer to you, and without thinking too hard about it, he grabbed the back of your thighs and lifted you onto the counter. At the jolt, you let out another soft gasp into the kiss. As the two of you got more frisky, you both were interrupted by the doorbell. That did not seem to bother Rusty, though; he kept chasing your lips as you pulled away. His hands that sneakily made its ways under your shirt to hold your bare waist eased out and rested on your thighs while the two of you caught your breath.
"I would've kept going, you know?" Rusty groans as he flops his head into the side of your neck. You half-sighed, half-chuckled at his disappointment.
"Me too, but alas, we have a show to start." You sighed, running your hand through Rusty's hair, fixing it for him. Rusty looked at you with a lovestruck stare while you were keenly focused on his hair. One more minute in this kitchen, and Rusty thinks he'll blurt out that he loves you.
"After this heist, you and I are going on a vacation." Rusty decides as he also fixes your hair. You smiled brightly at the small touches; it honestly felt a little domestic. Your heart was bursting with the need to have Rusty alone, doting on you, becoming too much to bear.
"Can't wait to have me alone, can you?" You joked as Rusty took a step back, creating some distance before he had the urge to chase your lips again.
"More than you know." Rusty sighs dramatically before kissing your forehead as a small gesture of his affection. You blushed at his comment before clearing your throat as a way to ground yourself.
"Rusty, if you keep sweet-talking me, I don't think we will ever leave this kitchen." You groaned, jumping off the counter before taking steps away from the rusty. Rusty chuckled and followed you slowly.
"Maybe that's my whole plan."
"(y/n) ocean, aren't you a sight for sore eyes." Basher whistled as soon as you walked into Reuben's backyard. Following you, Rusty closed the patio door while Basher gave you a quick hug.
"Hey basher, how's it going?" You asked after letting go of the fellow thief in front of you.
"Wonderful, now that I'm working with proper villains again." Basher cheerily responded while squeezing your arm. Basher looks behind you, spots Rusty a few steps back, and looks back at you with a small smile. "He's not far behind you, as usual." You rolled your eyes at the implication before shrugging.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Basher hummed in response just as Rusty walked up to the two of you.
"This guy's not bothering you, is he?" Rusty says as soon as he gets close to the two of you. You rolled your eyes as Rusty pats Basher on the back.
"Hey, if anything, you're the one who's bothering her," BAsher responds. "Following her like a shadow, I wonder what would happen to the two of you if separated."
You rolled your eyes before looking around. In the back, you noticed a lone figure sitting on one of the daybeds. Looking closer, you immediately recognized the man. "Excuse me for a second."
Rusty watches as you walk away. "Who is that?" Basher asks Rusty. "Bobby Caldwell's kid, Linus."
"Linus Caldwell? "At the sound of his name, Linus looks up, and after a brief moment of shock, a glimmer of recognition flashes in his eyes.
“(y/n) ocean? I recognized your brother's name, but I had no idea you would be here." Linus gets up, and you both share a brief hug.
"It's nice to see you! What, its been like four years?" You ask after letting go. Linus nods with a small laugh. "Yeah, it's been a long time." Linus confirms.
"How are your parents?" At the mention of his parents, Linus reels back a bit and shrugs.
"They're good, you don't think Danny called them right?" You were about to respond, but Danny decided to make his appearance at that same moment.
"Gentlemen, welcome to Las Vegas. Everybody eaten? Good. Everybody sober? Close enough." Danny pauses briefly before looking around at the group before him. "All right, before we get started, nobody's on the line here yet. What I'm about to propose to you is both highly lucrative and highly dangerous. If that doesn't seem like your particular brand of vodka, help yourself to as much food as you like and have a safe journey, no hard feelings. Otherwise, come with me." As everyone began shuffling toward the house, you noticed Linus hesitantly stayed where he was standing. Rueben also notices and steps forward.
"You're Bobby Caldwell's kid, huh, from Chicago?" Linus nods in response.
"That's wonderful…get in the god damn house." At the exchange, you let out a snort. Give it to Reuben to always tell it straight. Linus immediately walks into the house; you pat Reuben's shoulder as you both follow him in.
"Say we get into the cage, and through the security doors there and down the elevator we can't move, and past the guards with the guns, and into the vault we can't open-"
"Without being seen by the cameras." You chimed in.
"Oh yeah, sorry I forgot to mention that." Danny apologizes before Saul can continue.
"Yeah, well, say we do all that. We're just supposed to walk out of there with $150 million in cash on us without getting stopped?" At this, everyone turns to look at Danny, who, with a slight smirk, shrugs before responding with a "yeah."
Saul nods before relaxing into his chair. You smile, knowing that now, everyone is in and ready to carry out the heist.
Danny then begins to explain the heist's plan, assigning roles and whatnot. As Danny takes the lead, you let yourself zone out and automatically hone your attention on Rusty. To your shock, when you do look at him, he's already staring right at you. You're a bit startled before relaxing, and at his stare, you quirk an eyebrow at him. Rusty smirks in response, scratching his chin as he takes you in.
Rusty is amused that it took you this long to notice his stare. The whole time Danny took over the explanation, he had been staring you down at every chance he could get. It's honestly not his fault, he thinks, after years of not touching one another, the fact that he has you to himself is still a dream come true. So you can't blame him for wanting to stare at you or even be near you every second; he needs to make sure he's not dreaming.
You're a bit embarrassed by how unbashful Rusty is now. While others are focused on the heist, you're more focused on not showing how affected you are by your boyfriend's stare. You try to look away, but your eyes unwillingly look back at Rusty, who is now looking at your face. You make direct eye contact with Rusty, and the playful look he's giving you is anything but innocent. It's only when the others start to stand up that you are knocked away from the trance.
"(Y/n), it'll be up to you to get us that room at the Bellagio," Danny says, coming right up to you as the others shuffle out. You blink twice before nodding, straightening yourself up as well. "And get yourself a room, I don't want you to share a room with us apes." Danny jokingly comments before patting your shoulder and walking out of the room. As he does, you and Rusty are left alone, and suddenly the air grows a smidge thicker.
"Have I told you. You look beautiful tonight." Rusty says, crossing the room to get to you. In response, you roll your eyes, pushing yourself off the wall you were resting on.
"Well, it doesn't hurt to hear it again." You joked, grabbing Rusty's hand. Rusty looks down and slightly lifts your interlocked hands. He smiles to himself softly before looking at you again. A soft look coats his face, and honestly, from your view, he looks absolutely smitten. At his stare, you flush, feeling just as smitten as he looks.
"I'll repeat a million times more if needed." He says before dipping his head down a bit more to press a kiss on your cheek. Rusty was acting a bit cautious with his affection as he didn't want the two of you to get caught, especially not by your brother.
"You're such a sap." You giggle, looking up at Rusty through your lashes.
"Yeah, but I'm your sap." He smiles before kissing your cheek again.
"You know, Danny told me to get my own room." You mention, looking over Rusty's shoulder to make sure there were no intruders.
"So I've heard." Rusty hums, tucking a piece of your hair behind your ear.
"Which means a lot more privacy." You ponder out loud, to which Rusty hums again. "Do you have any ideas in mind?"
"I'm sure I can think of things to do." Rusty leaned in again after he said this, kissing your jaw this time.
"Rusty." You warn. "Mhm." He responds, kissing right below your jaw this time. "Anyone can walk in."
"Yeah, but at this point, let them," Rusty responds, all care thrown out the window as he kisses further down your neck. Biting back a whimper, you somehow muster the strength to push Rusty back. At the push, Rusty looks almost devastated at the fact that you didn't let him continue his relentless teasing.
"Just one more day, okay?" You assure Rusty, cupping the side of his face. Eusty sighs before nodding.
"It better be, I'm not sure how much longer I can go with having you in my sights but not being able to be with you."Rusty sighs, grabbing the hand that is cupping your face. He turns slightly, pressing a kiss to your open palm.
"Hey, it's killing me too, you know." Rusty smiles at your confession and kisses your pulse point in response.
"I guess we're both saps then," Rusty responds, causing you to laugh softly.
"Yup!" You lean up to kiss Rusty on the cheek before reluctantly letting go of his hand. "Let's go before my genius of a brother gets suspicious." You groan, walking towards the living room exit.
"Suspicious of what?" Danny says, turning the corner. You jump back a bit, shocked but also afraid.
"Uh, nothing. Just the fact that I wasn't paying attention to your whole plan, yeah, know since we collectively made the plan together." You awkwardly lied. Danny raises a brow at you before glancing at Rusty behind you, who was trying to hold back his laugh.
"Yeah…for sure. Anyway, we've got an early day tomorrow. Reubens is allowing us to stay the night, but I think we should plan how we go to the Bellagio tomorrow." Danny says, settling down on one of the couches. Rusty clears his throat as you avoid looking at both of them. You sat down beside Danny, and the three of you began to brainstorm.
"You and Rusty should enter together. They'll buy the whole couple schtick, and the rest of us will enter throughout the day."
The plan, for the most part, was that you and Rusty would get the two rooms. The first room is for you, and the second is for friends who weren't able to check in themselves because their flight was delayed. If any questions were asked, the two of you, along with your friends, were having one last hoorah before your "marriage."
"I guess I can start looking for engagement rings." Rusty jokes before yawning. You roll your eyes and stand up with a huff.
"Well, if that's all, then I'm gonna go hit the hay. Got an early day with my imaginary soon-to-be-fiancé, apparently." You stretch before stifling a yawn. "Goodnight, boys." Luckily for the three of you, Reuben had three rooms available.
Once you left the room, Danny looked behind to make sure you left before turning to Rusty with an accusatory stare.
"Are you sweet on my sister, Rusty?" At the sudden question, Rusty chokes on his spit.
"Uh, what?" Rusty chokes out.
"You heard me." Rusty sighs and rubs his neck.
"First of all, are we still in the 60's?" Danny rolls his eyes at the joke. "Second of all, I'm I that obvious?"
"You've been that obvious for years." Rusty widens his eyes at that. "What? Don't you think I noticed all the staring and the lingering glances? You're my best friend, Rusty and (y/n) is my sister. I have to notice everything about you two."
"I'm your best friend?" Danny chuckles at THAG before shaking his head. "No, seriously, I'm honoured."
"Don't change the subject," Danny warns. "Anyways, all I'm going to say about this is that the thing between you two, it's been a long time coming." Rusty looks down at his hands, trying to come up with a response.
"So…this means I have your blessing?" Rusty asks as he looks up.
"Now who's acting like they're in the 60's?" Danny smirks; Rusty chuckles in response but is still waiting for an answer. Rusty can't lie: while he loves being with you, the fact that he was hiding the relationship from not only his best friend but also your brother has been eating at him. All he really needs to feel settled is your brother's blessing for his relationship. While losing you would hurt, losing his best friend would hurt just as much. But Rusty would never admit this aloud to Danny; he would absolutely never live it down.
"Yes, Rusty. You have my blessing." Immediately after Danny says this, Rusty instantly relaxes. He wasn't really aware how tense he was until this moment, but once again, who could blame him? "I just don't want to hear anything, you know that's still my sister."
"You sure? Because I wanted to talk about how I love holding her like really close, and you know caress-"before Rusty can even continue, Danny launches a pillow at him. "Dude? What are you five?"
"Five minutes away from killing you."
"Hey, now what would (y/n) say about that?"
Both of them sat there laughing and enjoying each other's company. For Danny, this was the longest he had laughed or felt this relaxed since his incarceration. Rusty ultimately missed his best friend and was forever grateful to him for bringing you into his life.
