Pendant Lamp designed by Robert Sonneman for George Kovacs c. 1970′s

Robert Sonneman is a prolific American lighting designer and founder of the Sonneman Design Group. This pendant lamp is evocative of a flying saucer, which is no doubt why it was selected for use in Star Trek. It was used in The Next Generation, as lighting for Riker’s quarters during the senior officers’ poker games. It’s interesting to note that this lamp is not present during any other scenes in Riker’s quarters.

All designed in the 60s for the Pan American World Airways also called Pan Am. On the chairs, the structure of steel wire reminds the shape of the "Pan Am" logo. This style makes optical illusions just like "Op art", then in vogue in the 1960s. Very pretty!
