I know that when you heard I am Wiccan you freaked just a bit. You didn’t know what to expect from me, or my religion. Your first thought was that I worshipped Satan and that you had to protect yourself and your kids from me. Then you considered how you could save me, but eventually you settled on just being distant and avoiding the religious topic all together. I don’t blame you, they say that if you want to remain friends with someone you have to avoid two topics, Religion & Politics. But here is the thing about me, I think to be true friends, no topic can be off limits.
You have taken great steps to respect my beliefs while trying not to judge me, but you can’t help but judge me just a little. So, I wanted to take the unknown out of our friendship. I have read your entire Bible, front to back, even who begat who. I went to your churches as a child and I celebrate your holidays as an adult. I am still in love with the Christmas season for all of the good deeds and positive karma it generates.
Please, as my friend, allow me to explain what I believe, so that perhaps you can see we aren’t that different. We both only want to be as close to God as we can be. I don’t think you’re doing it wrong, in fact I think you’re probably on the perfect path to God.
I am a Wiccan. I do not believe in nor worship Satan. There is no Satan nor no Hell in my religion. Nobody suffers eternity anywhere because the idea of God as I understand Him is that he loves us all, even the ones that are fatally flawed. His love for us means he could not spend eternity without us. He loves us so much that he would forgive us our mistakes and spend eternity with us rather than suffer himself. He is like a grandmother who will love her grandchild no matter what. His ability to forgive is truly his superpower. He can forgive what the human heart never could.
I believe in God and I believe that God allows us to each worship and interpret Him however we see the need to. God has no ego, that is a human experience, so God does not care by what name I call him, for he knows I am calling out to Him and He answers my call. So no matter what name you use, or I use, please know its the same God, and that I believe he loves us equally.
You may have heard the term Witch a lot in reference to me. Though the Catholic church worked very hard for many years to make you fear a Witch, I can give you my word as a child of God that no true Witch would ever do you harm. A Witch is someone who has learned a deep respect for nature and has learned how to manipulate nature to achieve certain goals. Trust me, if God did not want Witches to manipulate nature, he would not allow us to. Some people will tell you that its the devil who allows us to do this, but let me ask you, does Satan seem the like the kind of man that would help someone manipulate nature to nurture and heal? A Witch, a true Witch lives by a certain code. “Do what ye will, In it harm none.”
We have all taken a vow to help, heal and protect. We would never do anything to cause harm unless it was in the defense of the innocent. Basically, if you harm a child we will bring upon you a storm that God himself will shake his head at. We harm none, but we do not sit back and allow the innocent to be harmed. My idea of God requires that I defend the innocent, protect the weak, heal the sick and love you all.
To close my letter, before it gets too long or too confusing, allow me to say this please. I believe in God, I love God and I love everything God created. I cry when I watch Secret Millionaire, I cry when I see an animal being neglected or abused. I laugh when a child smiles, because I know that’s one of the closest things to God I can see with my own eyes. I find God in nature, I see His touch in the clouds, and in the trees. I see God everywhere I look, and I am proud to say, I worship that which God creates and I worship God by many names. He is my father, teacher, and friend. I love Him more than I love myself, and for His cause I will lay down my life should he ask it of me, for it is He who gave me this life.
I believe in God. I believe in Good. I believe in Magic to help those who need it. And I believe that we can be great friends because the thing we have in common is that God loves us both, equally.
