REVELATIONS AND REJUVENATION

Last night my soul was rejuvenated by the beauty, power and brilliance of The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater under the Artistic Direction of Robert Battle. There is something so electric and empowering in the choreography and movement when Ailey dancers command the stage. It's a spiritual, emotional and cultural experience. I felt inspired and invigorated when I saw the muscular bodies glide, sway and fly gracefully and confidently across the stage with verve. Every once in a while my body convulsed in my seat and the spirit moved through me. I wanted to scream: Hallelujah! Seeing the passion of the performers is cathartic, liberating and comforting all at the same time -- it's familiar. One of my favorite pieces is Revelations' Wade in the Water. The idea of being baptized and cleansed whispered to my spirit, like that of my ancestors, I know that glory, transformation, freedom and salvation awaits. EW
