41 12 Angry People by Reginald Rose dir by Robert Breuler and Suzanne Petri. We played the guard. I didn’t suddenly become royal or develop a split personality. Mike Dailey and I alternated playing the guard. Mike used to have a picture of him in the role, probably still does. But I think since he won the toss, he was in the photocall photo. You can see on the website it’s listed as 12 Angry Men, but we did it as 12 Angry People for the Steppenwolf Outreach Show. The complicated thing about it was, at the time, the outreach show had to perform on the set of the mainstage show. The mainstage show was Clockwork, and there were two inches of dirt covering the entire stage, wing to wing. So the cast and “crew” had to bring up 8 4x8 platforms (covered in fiberglass to muffle sound) on the freight elevator from the basement and set them on top of the dirt, and then bring up all the set and prop pieces as well (table, chairs, water cooler, door, etc.) Now when I was acting in the show, I got paid $25.00 a show for my work. On the days I was the crew, I had to do everything the cast had to do, for the same amount of time, but not act, and I got paid $30.00 for my work. Since we were still paying off our advance, every $5.00 helped. Bob & Suzi were lovely to work with, and this was the show I met Ray Wild on, a man who in 3 short years would save my ass by letting me become his roommate. Honestly there should be a book about Ray, who as a young man spent his life fighting for civil rights and who met both John F Kennedy and Jack Ruby. #retrospective #1994 #steppenwolftheatrecompany #12angrypeople #robertbreuler #suzannepetri #guard #mikedailey #stillmoredirt (at Steppenwolf Theatre Company) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5X0QBgpLOB/?igshid=ghjoy3nvenrp
