august tbr plz ๐๐๐งก
hehe hi cas! i'm just like you idk how much reading time i'll have this mind i finished outline by rachel cusk a couple days ago and then bought the next two books in the trilogy so i'm reading those for sure!
might dip my toe back into the classics pool, too! i've been really loving dialogue heavy books lately so i'm gonna try if beale street could talk by james baldwin
hello miss imo ๐ can you let the good people (me, first and foremost) in on your july reads & perhaps even a mid-year reading wrap up (fav so far + most disappointing ๐งฎ)
hello hi ๐คญ๐ i got the app so i can sprinkle in emojis (it always starts unironic but apple kind of did something). ok so:
july wrap up:
a room with a view by e. m. forster: 3/5. went right back to edwardian era fiction in my attempt to be more Rounded ๐ง๐พโโ๏ธ cute romantic read right on the cusp in terms of language of the time wouldnโt go older than this.
tell me iโm worthless by alison rumfitt: 5/5. iโve spent the year trying to read horror, and then i read what is now my favourite horror book. trans characters, haunted house, actually scary and menacing? cracked it. one of my top of the year. visceral reading experience. (cw: fascism, transphobia, antisemitism, sexual assault)
real life by brandon taylor: 4/5. love this style of prose. very intimate, tender and quiet read that was introspective without being boring. think this is a debut too? impressive. (cw: sexual assault)
my brilliant friend by elena ferrante: 3/5. lovely prose, very absorbing. first in a series so not completely blown by the narrative, but i suspect every look on white female friendship has referred back to this. (cw: sexual assault)
seven days in june by tia williams: 5/5. ๐๐๐๐ LOVE. one of the most convincing romance books iโve read in a while. so real and rawโunflinching. just yeah ๐ฅฐ๐คญ (cw: chronic illness, drug use and addiction, alcoholism)
the republic of false truths by alaa al aswany: 3.5/5. this is like a fictionalised retelling of very real events in egypt. appreciate for having expanded my worldview, not sure it stands as a work of fiction on its own. decent. (cw: sexual assault)
giovanniโs room by james baldwin: 3/5. classics girlies HATE me iโm sorry! ๐ the strength of the writing did not meet the narrative for me at all. didnโt emotionally connect but will try another baldwin book i swear
the man who watched the trains go by by georges simenon: 4/5. 1930s thriller spanning several european cities? sign me up. such a well constructed story
2022 mid year check in:
ok so iโm gonna talk about the books iโve been talking about since iโve read them ๐คญ๐๐ซฃ. open water by caleb azumah nelson always in my mind whenever i read 2nd person it sticks with me. also: transcendent kingdom by yaa gyasi ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ top 2 of the year for me
disappointmentsโฆ most notable my year of rest and relaxation. mexican gothic was clunky. the other black girl ๐คจ๐
iโve read 170 books so far this year so i can absolutely go on but ๐คญ iโll go back to what iโm currently reading which is mouth to mouth by antoine wilson
wcif le jambe de don s'il vous plaรฎt c'est important ๐ญ๐ค
i should be asking sergio and joaquin this.....
HBD + WELCOME 2 UR 20s SOJU HOPE UR HAVING SO MUCH FUN 2DAY โผ๏ธ๐๐ชฉ๐๐โผ๏ธ
NOT THUS PICTURE IM CRYINGDJFJ TYYYYY
hi maria i need to know what jace was like when he was a child โ๏ธ
hi cas ๐ฅบ omg child jace was a lil menace, but he was also a very kind kid. he loves his family very much so he always wanted to help his momma in the kitchen, or doing the laundry :) he doesn't remember much from his father, but he was a father's boy. they did everything together! they loved to prank raven together and raven would scold guidry a little bit bc they kept ganging up on her but smooch lil jace pats his head he can do no wrong kinda thing fkjfkf i wouldn't say he was spoiled tho, bc he shared everything with darrel and then he took so much care of gemma and played with her all the time! he's also an adventurous guy til this day, so as a child he would come home in mud, knees open, arm broken ahahah and although magic never reveal itself to him, he was a really good student! he learned a lot about the magic world. he hates it tho, he wants nothing to do with it, and never will.
happy happy birthday (AND anniversary ๐)!!!! i hope you have Such a lovely day!! ๐โจ
omg thank u sm!!!! ๐งก
what can u tell us about guidry without spoiling what u may be planning to eventually show in story ๐คจ
Cas my beloved ๐ฅบ๐
rubs hands together ok so, guidry was very much a womaniser before he got together with raven jaces mom for those who don't remember her name and yeah im going with the clichรฉ that when they got together everything changed for him, bc he finally felt the connection he was craving for so long. what im aiming to show is a little bit of his past, and how that past eventually caught up to him, how he died and how him dying affected ravens powers.
