Tim's dad is furious at him for having Ariana stay the night, even though Tim clearly slept in another room. At the same time, though, he's had his own "sleepover" with Dana. Dana handles the whole situation with grace. One of my favorite things about her character is that she's so grounding for Jack. She doesn't jump to conclusions about what Tim's been doing, but she doesn't excuse him either. She encourages Jack to act calmly and talk to Tim.
The thing I can never believe about this comic is that Jack doesn't talk to Tim about Ariana being in the house for a couple of days. When I was fifteen my parents would have killed me for this; at the very least we would have had a long, serious discussion immediately. I don't understand how Jack could have possibly waited days to address this issue with his son.
On top of that, when they finally do talk about it, Jack is a complete wimp about it. He's lucky Tim is such a great kid, because no one would feel scolded after this conversation. He basically tells Tim he can do whatever he wants, because Jack has never been strict and isn't going to start being so now.
I'm also shocked how Jack is willing to let a woman sleepover his house while his teenaged son is home without even talking to Tim about it first. Jack is a single parent, and while that doesn't mean that he can never have another relationship, he should certainly be more concerned with his son's welfare. The conversation about Dana that Jack waited a few days to have should have occurred long before she stayed the night.
On another note, while Tim is depressed that Ariana is moving away, he's also very realistic about the likelihood of them maintaining a long-distance relationship. Clearly he understands that their love is not founded on bedrock.
