The Nightwood is a true story.
Today i was thinking about all the books i love and the inspiration i could get from them for some art ideas. i remembered my favorite picture book, The Nightwood by Robin Muller and i realized that the love story in that book is mine! Its about a forest called the nightwood and queen and her party inhabit the forest and have grande balls with masks and pretty ball gowns. Elaine, the main girl, is a misunderstood young woman that is still seen as a child. Her father turns down her self invitation to dance at his ball and so she steals away into the night to dance at the Elfin Queen's ball in the nightwood. Upon entry, she sets her gaze on a beautiful rose bush and picks one. As she does a handsome young man appears and states his name is Tamlynne. He dances with her each night that she escapes and eventually her father, the earl of march finds out and tells her maid to keep her in her in her room. Elaine grows weak from her deprivation of her love. When she finally gets the chance however, she leaves and goes to the nightwood. An old haggard woman warns her and tells the story of how she fell in love with one of the elves and however she tried to hold onto him, he shifted shapes and she let go and lost him forever. She warned that the same fate would fall upon Elaine and Tamlynne. Elaine still goes deeper into the nightwood and once again a very sad Tamlynne appears, fearful that he lost her. The ball they attend is in front of the queen herself and challenges that she is the ultimate power and that mortal love is no comparison. She takes Tamlynne and makes him shift forms into a bear, a snake, a dog and fire. Elaine has to hold on and never let go of him. She has to keep him else she'll lose him to the elfin queen forever and so the fire scorches her skin but she, determinedly, never lets go. Finally, Tamlynne turns back into himself and the elfin queen is defeated. she claims royally that mortal love is the most powerful force in the world and surpasses her own power. and so Elaine gets to keep Tamlynne happily ever after. Im not even joking, this is my exact love story. If i think about how people, like my dad, underestimate me , and that i sneak to see my boyfriend whom i love dearly, the fact that i love roses, that me seeing J is almost forbidden, the fact that i spent a great deal of time away from him and another would have taken him away if i had let go of him. the fact that i got him back...J is not only my Prince Adam, or my Edward Cullen or my Superman, he's my dear, sweet, Tamlynne
