Dropping a Kylux AU I wrote from listening to music. Specifically “When She Loved Me” From toy story.
Like. All I can picture is like a Robot!Hux having been built for companionship and caretaking, and it’s sort of like a world like the movie AI where robots have intelligence and even feelings. He was bought to babysit a young child named Ben, who quickly grew attached to him. Hux is in the house until Ben is like 12, and he starts to get bored of him and all that. Ben starts getting anger issues.
Hux doesn’t have any idea where to go, sitting on the porch of the house for over 3 days, just sitting there. Eventually, he gets told off and just keeps walking. Walking till he cant anymore as he powers off in the middle of the woods.
A few months go by and Phasma finds him. She can see he has taken damage with the ripped skin, rusting some of his insides, but he is fixable. She needed a second pair of hands around the workshop anyway.
So she repairs him, recharges him and gives him a home. Hux is complacent, but never really got over it. Two decades pass. Hux has become proficient at fixing himself, building smaller robots and doing lots of mechanical maintenance, but his mood had never seemed to get happier. One day, Phasma never comes home. She worked with battle droids, often competing in illegal competitive matches that garnered her a bit of money, and money owed.
He is alone again as he waits for her, almost a month goes by and no sign. Though there are a few men who come to Repo her shop. Once again, he is on his own, wandering.
He finds himself in the city, able to charge and repair himself now as Phasma had upgraded his battery a long time ago. He doesn’t need to eat, but he does need money for repair parts. He is an older model, and comes across problems. He has been asked if he had wanted his motherboard switched into an upgraded model, but he always declined.
He didn’t want to be different. He didn’t want to look like *not him*. He always hoped to one day see his Ben again. He get’s into trouble one day however. In the city, robots aren’t allowed to just be out on their own, unowned.
He sometimes buys food to keep on his person, just so people don’t assume he isn’t organic. He get’s seen one day, repairing himself in a back alley. A group of anti-AI enthusiasts. It doesn’t take them long to do a number on him, leaving him practically motionless in the ally. He powers down, unable to keep his systems running properly.
Kylo was searching dumpers that night. He took up the hobby of battle robots a long time ago and often found some good, trashed AI parts or...even whole AI to work with. Tonight however, he decided to go to the scrap yard, wanting some more lucrative runs.
He is however, unprepared to see the limp form of a robot, laying among the rubble. And even better? It looks exactly like his “nanny” droid, as he had been taking to calling the memory. He tries to move on, looking for parts and leave, but he stops, unable to bring himself to leave without the fair robot.
Hux wakes to a parts shop, unable to move and only his internal systems turned on. He hears a voice, but cannot see, speak or move. It takes a few hours of the man working on him.
Don’t have my brain worked out from there.
