RT2 (AKA BERT2) by Elumotion (2010), Bath, UK. RT2 is a 36 degree of freedom robotic torso including torque sensors and absolute position encoders at all of the major joints. The arm wiring is enclosed in the fairings to eliminate any trailing cables, reducing catching issues and providing the unit with a more aesthetic look. RT2 supports studies of Human-Robot interaction, ensuring people’s safety when in close proximity to the robot. Besides speech, there are facial and body gestures which humans combine and integrate into their communications, including gaze following. “Consequently, our robot should be able to direct its head and eyes toward objects that score high in an internal attention system … gaze communication works both ways and our robot should also be able to sense the human's head and eye gaze direction.” – The BERT2 infrastructure: An integrated system for the study of human-robot interaction, 2010.
