the thing is that this has been a problem since robert got out of prison. after they got back together in 2018, for the most part robert really didn’t lie to aaron. there were exceptions of course, but they were usually dealt with pretty quickly.

last year we had the weeks of lying about kev, and now we’ve had the weeks of lying about the ids, and it makes sense in a way???? because for robert lying was always about fear. fear of losing status, losing control, losing aaron. and it honestly took so much trust and vulnerability and WORK for he and aaron to be so very honest with each other and solid in 2018-2019.

and I want so many stories for robron right now, but I think what i would want the most is for them to actually use this to show all the ways that the boys need to learn to trust each other again. for robert to trust aaron enough to tell him things before they spiral out of control, for aaron to trust robert enough to let down a few of his insanely high walls.

with the blackmail plot reveal looming I really do feel like aaron and robert are so far past any big "i thought i knew you" or "how could you do this" drama

i feel like aaron is going to be like "yup that's robert sugden behavior. i'm mad he went through with it but i know why he did. he makes me so furious sometimes. i'm gonna marry that guy."

I saw someone do this and it seemed hard but fun. What is your ranking of all the Robron years so far

Fhsjskfj anon I’m sorry it took me so long to respond but this WAS hard I kept changing the order and every time I started to answer I was like “I need more time to reflect” but HERE IS MY ANSWER based purely on emotions and my enjoyment of these years as a shipper*

*if you ask me this in a month I might have a completely different ranking !!! I am changeable and contain multitudes skdjdjs

1. 2018: soooo most of my favorite robron moments do not take place in 2018, but I’m putting it first for its sheer consistency. 2018 doesn’t have any months or SLs that I find it hard to rewatch, and I think it’s just such a lovely year to go INHABIT. They are so solid, so united against the various things thrown at them, and we get to see their relationship at the healthiest it’s ever been. Again… my highest robron highs live elsewhere but this year is SOLID and still contains reunion 2.0, proposal 2.0, wedding 2.0.

2. 2016: The only reason this year doesn’t take first place for me is because of the “Robron chill” in the summer. When I watched this in real time I was SO GRUMPY and even upon rewatch there are scenes I skip from that summer. BUT my god spring of 2016 was so beautiful and SSW2016 is still some of the best robron content ever. There are lots of small, quiet faves tucked away in this year too: “give it up, I know you too well” 🥲

3. 2017: ok so like… 2017 has some absolute bangers and I think it contains most of my favorite robron scenes. the lead up to aaron going to prison might be my favorite robron content EVER. Wedding 1.0, the goodbye hug, the reunion hug, the post-prison episode, the affair reveal. And there are even some real gems from when they were broken up. But it cannot be denied that this is the year I quit watching and there are still some parts of this year I struggle to rewatch. Not to mention… the ONS. People say they remember where they were when a huge, world-changing event happens? I remember where I was and what I was doing the night of the ONS. 2017 was brutal. but it still gets to be 3rd bc the highs were insanely high.

4. 2025: the year we got farmbert, robert ptsd, robert’s breakdown, the gorge, and our boys back together 💕 I honestly contemplated putting this one last bc they were only in half the year and the writing was… inconsistent. But there were so many amazing soft, romantic scenes and so many moments that felt tailor-made for me and my shipping needs. It was also a great time to be a Robert fan in particular. The reason i considered putting it last was bc… sometimes I felt like we were watching the writers editing their storylines in real time 💀 like something would happen and they’d just hit ctrl+z a few weeks later. And as much as I loved watching Robert pine for Aaron I also hated watching Aaron choose John over him. I know there were reasons!!!!! But it caused me pain kajsjdhaja. I went on a journey with Kev but I don’t necessarily feel like the writing for that was great either. Idk… if I had to articulate why the writing was inconsistent I think it would be that… character motivations and character beliefs felt like they changed at the whim of the writers without there always being a clear reason. This is soap so that’s always going to be the case to some extent but in 2025… it felt especially so. BUT ranking it fourth because it just still feels like a miracle that we’re here at all and it’s currently fourth in my heart.

5. 2019: big caveat that I didn’t watch this year in real time and I could see it being extremely frustrating if I had because robron didn’t kiss for months, were offscreen a lot, and then obviously it all came crashing down. but I love the surrogacy storyline, how disgustingly domestic they were, and then as sad as it was I can’t imagine a more romantic, tragic, emotional way of splitting up a couple. They were ripped apart from each other and it destroyed both of them! They did everything they could to stay together! Aaron fell completely the fuck apart because Robert was his everything!! Everything about Robert’s departure really honored them as a couple imo. I don’t love rewatching some of the buildup to him killing Lee because robert was so stuck in his rage and aaron just could not get through to him…. but I still think their angst this year was mostly good angst. The biggest complaint for me would just be the amount of time they were on screen and a bit of whiplash in tone going between storylines leading up to Robert’s departure. Plus quite limited affection. But the emotional intimacy was mostly 👌

6. 2014/2015: we owe everything to affair era robron and I will always love it. But this is the era I rewatch the least? It was EXCEPTIONALLY good television, but once ED gave me official!robron in 2016 I just found myself going back to the affair less and less. It obviously has some of the very very best content in terms of their physical chemistry (god can you believe we used to get them like… making out… on a regular basis) but after the affair reveal there was a lot of downtime for them the second half of the year. But honestly i recently started an affair rewatch and was kind of stunned by how absolutely in love they were so early… idk man there’s no bad robron years. I even love the scrapyard scene bc im a monster. Idk! I don’t want to put anything last!! This is only last bc I have spent the least time ~studying~ it I need to do a full rewatch again to better rank it

Bonus: if I were to rank them solely on what I feel like was the quality of the writing and the vision for long term storytelling:

I only got to do a in the moment watch of the proposal last night and was like cute nice didn’t expect a proposal but nice cool

But on a proper rewatch today, the second half! Aaron’s expression and voice trembling when he says “it’s us innit, it’s me and you”. His teary eyes, his hopeful soft voice you only get with Robert. His quaver on asking if Robert loves him. Robert’s teary little yes. Hopefully that they will do it “proper” this time and keep it 🥹🥹🥹

They give us these little droughts and then kick me in the teeth with moments like that

The proposal was so good. It was SO GOOD. Aaron in particular was just SO emotional in a way that I feel like we haven’t seen in a minute. When he asked Robert if he loved him and there was this moment of just utter vulnerability?? 💀

I also loved the fact that it was low key and impromptu, it just feels so right for where they are as a couple right now and the Robron is Inevitable™ mantra underpinning their storytelling. They are too old, too in love, and way too certain about each other to pretend like there is any alternative to them getting married again.

Yeah I had been feeling like things were a little “droughty” myself when they came back. Nothing wrong per say but my shipper alarms were not going off at full volume the way I had been expecting them to 😂. But it always comes back around and I’m so looking forward to where they go in 2026!
