Less then a week left until the launch of my new book 'No Ma(n)d's Land'. The book tells the story of the Mongolian nomads. __ The nomads have graciously embraced certain technological upgrades to enhance their daily life. More than half of them now have access to electricity. Access, but not in excess. They rely on the bare minimum, just a few hours of power generated by small solar panels, to power their most important devices, such as mobile phones, radios, televisions and lighting. __ #nomandsland #robwalbers (at Hovd, Bayan-Olgiy, Mongolia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpd-46aHbNM/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1dsr1wqsww4wg
Less then a week left until the launch of my new book 'No Ma(n)d's Land'. The book tells the story of the Mongolian nomads. __ The nomadic culture is under threat from the consequences of climate change, like droughts and harsh winters, and over-grazing. The traditions and livestock the nomads have relied on for centuries are now endangered, and as the herders’ livestock thins out, so does their livelihood. But in spite of the difficult living conditions, the legendary Mongolian positivity and gratefulness still prevail, as they try to make the best of a bad situation. Mongolia’s biggest strength perhaps is its people, one we should envy. __ #nomandsland #robwalbers (at Hanh, Hovsgol, Mongolia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpd-uXsHU_P/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ju36398npohw
Less then a week left until the launch of my new book 'No Ma(n)d's Land'. The book tells the story of the Mongolian nomads. __ The horse is the most important animal of the five muzzles. All nomads learn to ride one at a young age to the point that it becomes natural to them. The Mongolian horse, though almost as small as a pony, is a tough breed. The climate in which it lives has created an animal that is famed for its strength, a feature welcomed by the nomads who have relied on it for centuries. __ #nomandsland #robwalbers (at Tsetserleg, Hovsgol, Mongolia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpd-cDLnjLH/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ug8dzf8kwl3t
One week and a bit left until the launch of my new book 'No Ma(n)d's Land'. The book tells the story of the Mongolian nomads. __ With about a quarter of the country’s total population still living a traditional nomadic life and being influenced by their regions’ features and possibilities, subgroups have formed among them. One of those subgroups is that of the ethnic Kazakhs in Bayan Ulgii, a region in Western Mongolia, who use eagles and falcons to hunt for animals. After being suppressed by the communist regime when Mongolians were forced to work on collectivised farms, the nomads are now reclaims eagle hunting as their cultural heritage. __ #nomandsland #robwalbers (at Bayan-Ölgii Province) https://www.instagram.com/p/BpWOkk0HkYd/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1qq6xxjuztomc
