“I’ve been given an assignment.” She said plainly.
He looked at her then as she stood there with her arms crossed as she stared out at the sea.
“How long?”
Bellemere shrugged, “Not sure…all I know is I’m going back to East Blue to take care of some nasty business that pirates have been causing there.”
Rocinante frowned at the news, he heard about some fighting going on in that part of the world and anxiety crept up over him at the idea that Bellemere might be going in towards her death.
“You’re worried about me.” She stated.
“Huh? No n-no I’m not.” Rocinante reasoned as he put his hands up, “If anything, I feel sorry for whoever is gonna be at the end of your rifle!”
Bellemere laughed at the comment blue-grey eyes looking up at the tall blond, “And what about you?”
“I’ll be doing some reconnaissance work.” He said, scratching the side of his face, “Of course, I’ll be in disguise so no one will recognize me right away.”
“Such a shame you’ll have to hide that handsome face of yours.” Bellemere said shaking her head.
Rocinante felt his face heat up at the words, ‘Oh my God! She thinks I’m handsome!’
“So…when do you leave?”
“Um….” Rocinante cleared his throat, “Tomorrow. And you?”
“Same.” Bellemere answered then she grabbed her lighter and looked up at him, “Have one last smoke with me?”
Rocinante nodded his head before reaching in his pocket to pull out two cigarettes before handing one to her as she lit it before putting it in her mouth, “Here, let me light yours so you don’t set yourself on fire.” She said quietly.
“R-right.” And then she pulled him down so his face met hers as she leaned into him so that the end of her lit cigarette touched his. Rocinante felt his heart beat loudly in his chest as smoke swirled around their faces before she pulled away. However she felt a large hand on her shoulder that pulled her back towards him and into his side, her head leaning against his chest.
“The sea is lovely.” She said quietly.
“Yeah.” He agreed.
