The strange affair of the original Rococo Lady costume in Masquerade from Phantom Broadway. The costume in the first picture was wore by Mary Leigh Stahl, it was in use for probably only the first year on Broadway. After this small period, a newer design (last picture) was established and is still in use today. But there are a few more pictures of the original illusive Rococo Lady costume in group pictures (Presumably, Stahl was the only one to wear this costume, so I’ll be referring to the wearer as her)
1. Mary Leigh Stahl sometime on broadway
2. Dress rehearsal for Phantom. Stahl is missing her wig as some of the headdresses in masquerade were not finished at that point. Picture taken sometime very late in 1987 or in the first few days of 1988.
3. Headdresses all finished with Sarah Brightman as Christine, so this picture was taken in early-spring of 1988 before she left. This picture was most likley taken at the same time as 4-5.
4-5. The same picture, but 5 was brighten by me. You can just barely see Stahl behind the Oriental Lady dummy. You can see the hip decoration of the Rococo Lady costume and her torso. Really hard to see, but a picture.
6-7. Also the same picture, but found from different places. 6 has a large white border with information about the show at the bottom. Patti Cohenour is Christine, so the picture was taken sometime in Summer 1988 to Early 1989.
8. Concept art and a picture of the Current rococo lady costume.
@operafantomet do you have any more group pictures from this era?
