Roddacember 2020 - Day 1: Excitement [King Lief on his wedding day a.k.a an excuse for me to practice how to draw Lief again after a long break]

It is a green meatball with a melt-in-your-mouth flavour.

Lief, Barda and Jasmine followed the tales of Doran to the Pirran Caverns. When they ate the Molisk, which tasted the same as it did hundreds of years ago, I felt as if they had connected with the memory of Doran through time.

Molisk patties sounded so good that I once made some predictions about the taste of Molisk and thought of making a recipe for them. So this time I thought it was time to put these predictions into action.

The meatballs are made from the meat of creatures from around their island.

I think the melt-in-your-mouth taste is due to the gravy.

I think the green colour is from the seaweed powder they use for flavouring.

I think it tastes spicy, like ethnic food from South East Asia. Like Thai food.

Based on these ideas, I made a prototype of the Molisk in my image.

I prepared minced pork and chicken, seaweed powder,sea lettuce,spices for gapao rice.I combined mince and powder to make several different types of meatballs and compared the flavours.

I have been eating meatballs for the last few days, boiling and frying and eating them.Of these, the chicken meatballs with sea lettuce were delicious and tasted and looked similar to my image.

For the seasoning of the meat, I used only one type of spice for the gapao rice.It might be possible to get a clearer picture if we could study the cuisine of areas with a similar climate and lifestyle to the Auron rafts. However, this is still a work in progress.

When I actually started making the meatballs for this prompt, I felt that the green meatballs looked quite unappetizing. I also thought that if I posted a picture of them, it might spoil the appetite of those who saw them.

This came as a bit of a shock to me, as I had an image in my head of a deliciously steamy Molisk.

But then I realised that eating food that looked so strange was exactly what Doran, Lief, Barda and Jasmine had experienced.

And I like the people of the Auron rafts who offer a feast to the strangers who suddenly arrive.

This was a very interesting experience for me.

Except for the meatballs in the photo, the rest of the dishes are not made by me, but are store-bought. But I wanted to pursue the appearance a bit, so I collected them.

Roddacember - Week 1, Moment

*(un)fashionably arrives at the end of the party*

For the first week, I chose Rye's arrival at the Keep because I think that's really where the adventure began. When reading the book for the first time, I remember having the feeling that Rye would have stayed with his mother if they hadn't lost the house and then got separated at the Keep. Until this point, he was still following his brothers and his mother, seeming like a slightly less active character. However it has been a while since I read The Golden Door so I might be wrong.

I do confess I have no idea how to properly paint buildings, so if the Keep does not look like a believable place, sorry about that haha. I tried to go with more redish colors because Rye described it as a blister (?) coming out of the Wall.

Despite the absolute hell that this month has been for me and how busy the next one will be, I wanted to participate in this year's roddacember. I will end up doing it in January instead but oh well. I also chose to do the weekly prompts to go faster. This time I decided to really push myself and create a finished painting using gouache. It took me a while, but I'm finally figuring out the way I like to work with it. I plan on using the same paint for the other weekly prompts so this will be very interesting for me.

Roddacember 2020

So it's the final day of 2020 a,d by extent Roddacember 2020, and I didn't post anything this year. Reason is I've had way too much on my mind this month, but I'd still like to pop in on the last day to thank everyone who contributed for doing their part in keeping the Deltora Quest fandom alive. And above all, @lindalofbroome for organizing this whole thing. Thanks everyone. The Tumblr community has really reignited my love for the Roddaverse over the last year.
