Take a listen to these amazing tracks by the local and independent artists that were featured on BBOX Radio's The Rodent Hour during 2015.
Tonight's guest: Bloom!
We hope you had a good Columbus/Thanksgiving Day, or if you don't live in either America or Canada we hope you had an enjoyable October 8th. Tonight The Rodent Hour is very pleased to welcome local, independent band Bloom to the newly rear
ranged studio at Pratt Radio: Although initially conceived in January 2012, Bloom's current and permanent lineup, formed in June 2012, consists of David Flick (guitar/vocals), Mike Schnapp (bass), and Mike Crean (drums). Encompassing a sound that can be described as punk garage pop melodious dirge rock and roll, each member shares a distinct and similar set of influences that swirl together to create a sound that as one fan put it, "sounds like the death rattle of your first born that never even made it to the surface of existence." Without an LP or single release available yet, Bloom's focus is currently on strengthening live performance and crafting new material. At times raw and emotional, jaunty and idiosyncratic, present and passing, Bloom is a group that shares the inherent and contemporary vision of rock and roll that many other bands in the borough are righteously gravitating to: piecing together an uncompromising yet accepting music scene devoid of hierarchy and elitism whilst retaining a pure and unique approach to the loud freedoms of rock and roll. I like the band's energy and as a former punk rawker wannabe Bloom is the type of band that I would have gone to see at a local community hall when I lived in Edmonton. Tune in to Pratt Radio at 8:00PM (EST) this evening for a jam packed show that will include a wide variety of music from other 3-piece bands. We'll have something for pretty much everyone this evening. We'll have some rock-a-billy, some metal, some pop, some alternative music and some instrumental only bands. All created by 3-piece bands. Don't forget that on October 16th & 23rd Downtown Rachel Brown will be joined in the studio by Christa Imbriale, lead vocalist for Guillotine Riot.
Kira Metcalf and the band Color Creature were last night's guest on the Rodent Hour on Pratt Radio. Here is a slideshow of the pictures set to her song, "Crime of Passion."
Kira Metcalf combines old school jazz with edgy indie-rock. Her lyrics and melodies are both intricate and haunting, somewhat reminiscent of Metric, Alanis Morisette, and The Cranberries. She continues to write new music in collaboration with her incredibly talented band (Zach TK Zanghi, John Tocabens, and Zach Kirsimae) and hopes to one day make it to an issue of Rolling Stone. Kira has been writing her own songs in English and French since she taught herself guitar at age 13. She is the daughter of an orchestra cellist and a folk rock guitarist. Kira is part of a local arts collective called ConTemplate, founded by her close friends and bandmates in August of 2011, creating performance opportunities for young visual, musical and spoken-word artists.
