In the field picture there is no such thing as empty space. Fields pervade space; they are a condition or property of space; you can’t have space without fields. Fields obey laws that specify how a change at one point affects the field at adjacent points, and thus how that change is propagated through space.

I watched this when it first came out on video in the late nineties. (Back when there were video stores everywhere, and they mostly had VHS tapes.) While I am not going to speculate about whether any of the stars of this documentary are autistic or cousins, I do think that anyone experiencing any kind of neurodivergence that results in intense, unusual interests can probably relate to this film in some way.
WARNING: There’s a lot of flickering during the course of the film, the kind you often find in low-quality old black-and-white footage, which is interspersed with the more modern interviews. If you’re prone to photosensitive migraines or seizures or overload, be careful.
Anyway I just found it on Amazon and it was worth the $2.99 to rent it and watch it again. I wasn’t watching the screen the whole time (I had to cover my face when things got too flickery) but what I saw was good.

There is another reason why imaginary color is an appropriate tool for visualizing fields. You may be surprised to hear this, but the colors that we perceive in nature are also imaginary; they exist only in our minds. In nature there are no colors - only light waves of various frequencies. Even the vivid colors of a rainbow are not really there; the rainbow is created by water droplets that reflect light of different frequencies through different angles. It is in our brain, and only in our brain, that these signals are magically (and I do mean magically) translated into a perception of color.
