Chapter One
“When the FBI Comes Knocking” excerpt:
“Well if you agree to be on the case it has to look like we didn’t just let you go.” Agent Shipley says before sharing a look with his partner.
They nod at each other communicating without words. As only two people that really know each other can. It brings back a flood of memories of Riya, Dare, Logan, Mona and Colt.
I clear my throat bringing them out of their moment before saying, “Ok...tell me about the case.”
“Not here, we’ve already said too much already. Let’s go somewhere we can talk more freely.” Agent McKenzie says getting up from her chair.
“Give me a reason to.” I say clinching my hands into fists under the table. Feeling a sudden surge of anger. Remembering how Jason tried to use me too. I’m not making the same mistake twice.
“What would you do to see Mona, Colt, Logan again?” Asks McKenzie matter-of-fact, eyes suddenly sad.
I flinch back nearly falling off my chair. Mouth hanging open, I stare back and forth between them. Shipley gives me a small reassuring smile but McKenzie still looks sad. What would she know about it? About not being with the people you care so much for?
