I passed my final qualifying test! Tomorrow morning the Operations folks will get my results and official request for a truck--so if they have any immediately available here at the terminal, I'll get my truck tomorrow as well. To celebrate I bought a two pound bag of animal crackers because I am an Adult
the benefits counselor at work told me she wasn’t sure if HRT would be covered or not (let alone surgery ahhhahhahaa it figures) and she recommended that I check in with the insurance company to find out after I received the member benefits contact information, so I could determine how much to put into my FSA. naturally whether I’m going to be spending a little or a lot on HRT in the coming year, I want as much of it as possible to come from an FSA
because this is the USA and that’s just how medical bullshit works
online nothing helps since it’s not active until april, so alas I had to call
anyway the poor customer service rep is so over their head--they’re 0% sure about what’s up with surgery, but they can’t even figure out the HRT. they had me on hold for a while looking up whether HRT is covered (I assume, asking another rep or a supervisor for help, which is really nbd) buuuuut then came back on to say they need to call the predetermination line to find out if it’s covered lol now I’ve been on hold for another 20 min what the fuck
meanwhile I’ve actually been off HRT for about 4 months now because of finances, and I’m about to be solid again and don’t want to complain too much, but I really just want a straight yes or no or yes-but-jump-through-these-hoops answer. why isn’t this information readily available online or to the reps? baauuuhhhhhrrrg
Passed the last CDL exam! Now I just need to get the results to Ohio and I'll have my CDL in hand!
I have a question for cis people, especially cis men: If you have ever had somebody misgender you how did you react--and if you haven't, how do you figure you would react?
For anyone curious as to why I'm asking, today an instructor who doesn't know me at all called me "gal" twice in front of several trainees and two other instructors. The first time I probably cringed but tried to visibly ignore the error. With the second I sort of smirked and shook my head, looked down for a moment, and continued listening to the brief speech. Somebody must have corrected him after the fact since after we dispersed, he caught up with me and apologized. He awkwardly blamed the angle and the sunset and not knowing me heh but I thanked him for the apology and told him it was fine.
Yesterday afternoon I was given 23hrs notice to rent a car, drive 5.5hrs, check in at the terminal, drive another 45 min to return the rental, and take a quick shuttle and two busses–all in order to meet my on the road driver trainer! I was so impressed at how quick they had someone ready since I got my physical CDL only 48hrs prior but dang this felt like a bit of a pretest :o
The trainer called me somewhere in between asking if I could go faster. So here I am, in Chicago before 8am, proud af of myself for getting to my designated meeting place over an hour earlier than the trainer asked 😎
This post is 100% bragging but now I am going to cuddle my duffle bag so my trainer will find my efficient ass 100% sleeping
holy shit lmao the instructor in my new truck outed me by asking, in the truck with the other two trainees present, if I was willing to talk about my transition 😳 because he was excited and interested since he just watched a documentary on trans people a night or two ago, and it apparently changed his mind on it, and he's wondering about one of his twins... erm... ok so it seems the three of them had been talking about trans people yesterday, so he already anticipated that the other two would/should be respectful to me but uhh (!)
Note to all: don't out anybody as trans even if you're sure everyone present will be cool, or even if you're sure everyone present knows that they're trans.
Because: you don't know that they will all actually be cool and you might not actually know whether they all know.
And, most importantly: you don't know that the trans person is comfortable with discussing such personal information with the present crowd.
(I'm guessing I may have come up in their talk yesterday, so most likely everybody knew already--maybe everyone in the orientation department knows, for all I know, but damn like c'mon--semblance of privacy or, lord, something)
Now, I was fine, so don't anybody be worried or anything. And, the discussion the four of us had was actually a very good one! But I'm working out how to go about explaining to the instructor that his method of going forward wasn't appropriate--especially for a workplace. Hell, even as open as I am to share, I honestly had a moment of panic. I can only imagine how somebody who is more private or nervous might have reacted (and their reaction would have been very valid even if they reacted poorly to his good intentions)
