Roger Paul Neilson, CM (June 16, 1934 – June 21, 2003) was a professional ice hockey coach, most notably in the National Hockey League (NHL), and was responsible for many innovations in the game. He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame in the builder category.

After being the brunt of a couple of pranks pulled by the trainers, [Canucks player Colin] Campbell decided to get his own back. He acquired some paper and envelopes embossed with the Canucks' letterhead. Then, in the off- season, he typed out letters telling the two trainers that they would have to take 28 per cent pay cuts. And, while he was at it, he wrote a similar letter to coach Roger Neilson.

Then he shipped the letters to teammate Stan Smyl who mailed them from Vancouver to add authenticity. The two trainers quit in disgust and Neilson was furious. Campbell had chosen his time well. The man who could have straightened the whole matter out immediately - and the man whose signature appeared to be on the letters - general manager Harry Neale, had just left on a cruise.

Eventually, everything was explained to the victims.
