જ⁀➴ . . .It's finally here! And I'm a year older, so happy birthday to me! Hope you all enjoy!
"Kurt?" A velvety voice asked from the doorway. An imp-like figure looked up. A blue-like devil, like a Nightcrawler, was wide-eyed. A picture in his hand.
The woman in the doorway with a dark complexion and dressed in glorious white.
"Storm." Kurt's German accent formed around her name beautifully. Wiping away tears that may have been there.
"What's wrong?" She crossed inside his room. Resting on the bed next to him. Offering a hand for him to take.
"Mourning. A life i did not have." Kurt spoke sadly. Somberness clear in his voice. Eyes focused on the image before him. Kurt turned to Storm and showed her the picture.
Two babies dressed in blankets. A blue baby that looked like an imp, and another, a girl who looked completely normal.
"My sister. Older sister. Twins." Kurt's fur twitched as he spoke. He took the picture back against his chest. Feeling protective of what was his. The only thing he had left of his beloved sister.
Storm smiled, somberness in her eyes. "Do tell, Kurt, what is her name?"
Kurt turned the image over to find two names.
Kurt & [ ].
"What a beautiful name. Care to tell me about her?"
Kurt let out a shivering laugh. "That's the thing. I don't know anything about her. My sister and I have been separated for sixteen years. Separated from our mother."
Storm's expression faltered. Kurt continued, "I assume I was too blue for my mother."
"Perhaps, but your mother also felt it was right to give you away because then you would have been ridiculed." Storm rubbed his hand with her thumb. Clear remembrance in her head when thinking of how her life was back then. Regretfully, she missed it.
Kurt didn't comment on that. "I just want to find her. Meet her. See what life has given her. Knowing she doesn't have the other half of her." Storm wrapped the boy in an embrace, which he gladly took.
"Time will tell, Kurt." She ran her fingers through his fur thoughtfully, motherly almost.
A knock was then sent on the door frame. The two found a man dressed in a trench coat, with red eyes surrounded by black. Just a year older than Kurt.
"Gambit. What brings you here?" Storm asked with a smile, letting go of Kurt. The ever-blue imp hid the photo behind his back. His grip was tight, like someone would take it away and he would never see it again.
"Bonjour Stormy, Kurt." The man walked in, looking young, just a year older than Kurt. Hand in his pocket while the other flipped a card in the air. He caught it and placed it back with a deck of cards. "We have a debriefing."
At that, Storm and Kurt nodded and followed the Cajun man. Storm stepped ahead after giving Kurt a pat on his head. A comforting face that told him everything was going to be okay. Just as they were halfway, Gambit hung by.
"What's going on with ya?"
Kurt's fingers behind his back held onto the picture.
"You can tell me." Gambit's eyes went to Kurt's back, where he saw something in those blue hands. He went back to staring ahead to avoid adding stress to Kurt.
"Did you hear Storm and me?"
"A bit. That's a picture of you and your sister?"
Kurt huffed, pulling the picture in front of his eyes, sparkling when looking at his sister. Thumb carressing the picture, specifically over the part where he and his sister were holding hands. Baby hands-- her normal hands against his blue ones.
"Didn't know ya had a sista?" Gambit had an amused smile. Looking over the picture with awe. "Quite the cute pair of twins you two were?"
Kurt huffed, "Not enough for our mother."
Gambit sighed and looked at Kurt with furrowed brows. It wasn't a thinking session to say what Kurt thought. "Hey, let's not worry about that."
"I don't think she knows I exist. In fact, my own father doesn't know I exist. But I got the picture. I know she exists, but the other half doesn't. [ ] doesn't know I exist."
Kurt looked close to tears. Gambit stopped him and gave him a hug to comfort the other. "One day you'll meet her."
"Thanks, Gambit."
"Hey, you two," Storm had a smile, proud and clear on her lips. "Everyone is waiting for us."
"Thank you, everyone, for being here." Professor X announced with that smile of his. Proud of all the children that were brought to his school of mutants. In front of him were the X-Men, who were like, if not more, his children in some regard.
His helmet was on with Jean Grey beside him, that same smile.
"What's up?" Logan greeted Storm, who embraced him. A small peck on the cheek before coming back to focusing on Professor X.
"Peachy." Storm smiled brightly at him.
Professor X smiled affirmingly, looking proud. "I can't say any of you have seen the news."
Everyone shook their heads except Jean and Cyclops.
"What is happening?" Storm inquired with the tilt of her head. Professor X looked at Jean, and they both nodded at one another. Cecebro activated for them all, where the world appeared.
Then it zeroed in on one person, a single dot in the infamous Gotham City. It was where a certain mansion sat with the richest man in that city. A mansion belonging to billionaire Bruce Wayne, with tons of kids at his side.
"Why are we focusing on Gotham City?" Storm asked once again. Her eyes settled on the dot.
Kurt has curiosity building in his mind. As far as he knew, with the limited knowledge he was left with from his mother, he knew he was born in Gotham. He wondered if his sister was still in Gotham.
At this point, Kurt still didn't know who his father was. Maybe his sister was with him and his mother, without him.
"Recently, there was an incident in Gotham. People are going crazy, and Bruce Wayne is involved. A man who's one of the richest and has too many kids." Quite ironic, considering Professor X. Logan let out a short laugh at it. Storm hit his arm with an amused smile.
"It wasn't big here or really anywhere else, but Bruce Wayne was revealed to have another biological child than Damian Wayne." Professor X spoke matter-of-factly. "Jean."
She did as told. Pulling out her phone to reveal a photo of a girl. It was a headline with a name that made Kurt shiver. His heart was beating fast against his chest, and fur rising like goosebumps.
[ ] Wayne - [Last name]
Kurt's voice hitched at the name. The picture in his hand was crushed by his tightening grip. He hated himself for doing so, but this was insane. Had he found his sister finally? And fucking Bruce Wayne was his probable father.
A hand settled on his shoulder.
It was Gambit who had a concerned look on his face. "Calm down, mon ami."
Jean pulled her phone away to read from the article. "Billionaire Bruce Wayne's daughter, who was revealed to be his child about 9 months ago, is a mutant. A born mutant from non-mutant parents. At school, it's hypothesized that just by a single touch, she can zap energy from a person. Reportedly, by the cameras, she and her then boyfriend, currently anonymous, were kissing after skipping class, and after fell looking close to death."
"Currently, there has been no sight of Wayne's daughter. Investigation is running rampant, as is the media's desire to have her locked up for safety. Internet commentators are demanding Gotham's vigilantes to capture her and to turn her in, or even the Justice League to get involved. The Wayne family has made no statements on the matter."
Everyone had a horrified look on their faces.
"That poor girl." Storm murmured.
Logan's face had darkened. His fists seemed to ache at the mention of a girl who just fully developed her power, just discovered them was being prosecuted.
"To say everyone in Gotham is a shit show is an understatement." Jean finished off. "We're looking to take her in for safety."
"She comes here, she can better take control of her powers," Cyclops added, hands across with furrowed brows. His deep frown showed he was deeply disturbed. His despair for normal people was deep. Worried for the girl.
Kurt had just felt more than validated. No, he was sure.
"Hey, Kurt, you have something on your mind?" Jean asked him. Her face was etched in worry. Everyone turned to him. Gambit's hand squeezed his shoulder to provide more comfort.
Storm's face formed a realization. "Kurt, what you told me before...are you thinking that?"
"Yes, actually, I'm quite sure." Kurt pulled out the photo. His thumbs on each side, looking at the several creases in the photo. "That girl, [ ], she must be my sister. My twin, my other half."
"What?" Logan expressed with raised brows.
"From what I know, I was born in Gotham, with a twin sister, to a mother. Put me up for adoption, for what I can only assume was because of my skin. Put my mother cared enough to leave me with a name, and given a photo to prove I'm half of one whole."
Tears welled in Kurt's eyes, and he wiped them away. Gambit hugged him and squeezed his shoulders.
"Well then, you two shall be reunited." Professor X focused on Gotham even more. "She never left Gotham, and in fact never left the house that she lived in. Her mother died, yes?"
"Yes, she did." Jean confirmed.
Kurt's heart ached badly. His mother, his biological one, was dead. A woman who loved him to an extent, more than Mystique, for that matter.
"She's still at that mansion? Bruce Wayne's mansion?" Logan inquired with a brow raise.
"Precisly Logan."
"Why, though?" Gambit asked. "They must be keeping her there to keep her safe there."
"But that's not safe for her, and nor is it the same for them," Jean confirmed, with a deeply pained expression. "We need to help her."
Logan huffed, "So the plan is to take her from the mansion? It's not like people in that mansion are going to let her go, and she doesn't even know us."
"Most likely not trustworthy of anyone," Storm added.
"I can do it."
"Kurt!" Storm questioned him.
"I can do it. I know things about her that could make her trust me. Please, I want to..." Kurt fully felt tears flooding down his cheeks. Gambit held him and embraced him completely.
"I believe that is the best plan for this situation. After all, Kurt, you can finally meet your sister, your other half, finally." Professor X concluded the meeting.
It's been so long since you've been given some time for yourself. Once again, there were people in your room. At this point, you understood what they were trying to do, because after all, they missed a lot of time with you.
Their fault, but some of them tried to make it look like it's your fault.
Dressed in a dark green dress with long, sheer sleeves, a square neckline, and went down to your knees. Long black satin gloves slipped onto your hands, dressed in a void, as were your legs. A simple doll for Stephanie to play with.
Although you had a choice, you liked to see a smile on her face. She was smiling despite treating you like an object, a doll. You didn't want anyone touching you, and yet you let it.
Despite it all, you still wanted love, and now, they were willing to give it to you.
"Ah! You're so cute!" Steph laughed, twirling on her toes. Her hands held jewelry, gloves on them after you insisted. She seemed disappointed. Looked like everyone in this house wanted to risk their lives.
"Doesn't she look so cute, Cass!?"
The girl, quiet on your bed, nodded. A soft smile on her face, looking at you with complete adoration.
"I agree. This is fitting of you." Damian said as he walked in, Titus at his side. He sat next to Cassandra, looking at you with just as much intensity.
You kind of enjoyed being with them three more than the others. They felt more intense and more forward. Stephanie's own love towards you felt more digestible than the others. Cassandra and Damian were more careful with it, like a fragile thing, but they didn't want to let go. It felt just as digestible, but just a different flavor.
You stayed silent as they conversed amongst each other. Twiddling with the gloves on your fingers. Eyes were dull, but your heart still felt full of love. But, this just felt not the kind of love, but how else could they show it when your powers are limited, no touching?
"Which do you want?" Stephanie presented you with two bows to wrap around your neck.
"Black." You said softly. Shivers going up your spine when Stephanie's gloved hands brushed against the nape of your neck when the ribbons were wrapped around your neck.
A disturbing image crossed your mind but you quickly brushed it. You wondered, though, if she didn't have those gloves, what would happen?
"There! Absolute perfection!" Stephanie clapped for herself, and Cassandra joined in.
Damian got up and faced you. "You look pretty."
You flushed in embarrassment. "Thank you, Damian."
Would it be wrong that you were getting used to this? Was it wrong that you wanted to feel love even if it was like this? Is it wrong that she wanted to run away from this, and yet craved this love of theirs? Was it wrong that there was a small part of you that wanted to stay despite the boundaries being crossed?
Then there was a knock on the door.
Bruce, your father was at the door. A smile on his face. "Hey, you look pretty [ ]."
Then he turned to Steph, Cass, and Damian. "It's time for patrol."
Steph groaned but followed anyway. "See you tomorrow morning!" She smiled at you with a squeeze on the shoulder and then flung her gloves onto your dresser.
Cass offered you a smile and a kiss on your gloved hand. Princess, she signed.
Damian hugged you, and you reluctantly hugged back, careful not to zap his energy. Otherwise, they may leave you. Maybe not Tim, but still, there were the others.
"Get ready for bed. Alfred will check on you. Duke should be coming home soon. Do get some rest." Bruce smiled, squeezing your gloved hands with his. It all felt so strange. Bruce felt more soft than ever for you. To everyone, he was so much softer.
However, you noted the much rougher marks on his fists. You wondered what exactly they were doing on these nights of patrol.
For the first time in awhile you were left alone in your room. Left feeling like a doll, and not knowing what to do other than do what you were told.
You also thought you may have seen a blue speck, numerous in fact. You wondered if you were going crazy.
Kurt found himself looking from a tree into a window, because that's where you were. Dressed in green and black with an interesting white streak in your hand.
He felt more than a connection. Kurt had watched a man, Bruce Wayne, his father presumably, if you were his sister, squeeze your gloved hands. Kurt felt a tinge of jealousy, but that went away when he caught a dull look in your eyes.
He knew that look.
Just what was happening in this house?
Now was his chance to find out because now, you were alone. Alone in your room to take you.
"I can do this." Kurt repeated to himself. Settling his wits get in that house and to meet you. Please be my sister. He needed it to be you. To be his other half. The photo in his trench coat suddenly felt heavy.
Kurt looked away when he realized that you were about to change.
It gave him time to look upon the mansion, a place that could have been his home.
In one of the windows, he found an elderly man dressed as a butler. Kurt made sure to keep himself in the darkness. The man felt dangerous, and Kurt wanted to keep himself alive, thank you very much.
He watched the elderly man finish placing a plate of cookies and a glass of milk on a serving plate. At that, Kurt went back to your window. He found you dressed in a nightgown, still wearing those gloves, and even very long socks.
Resting in your bed, waiting for someone. Kurt waited and found the elderly man dropping off the cookies and milk. A short conversation followed; you seemed uncomfortable, and then the butler left.
When he left, you nibbled on a cookie, shoulders tense.
Kurt felt his nerve shake. This was his chance to meet you.
Then your eyes seemed to catch him, going wide with shock and fear. Curving up, legs up to your chest, and the cookie falling to the floor.
Well, something was better than nothing.
Kurt teleported into the room where you visibly jumped. Knowing your powers, he covered your mouth with the fabric of his trench coat.
"Please don't scream!" He yelled-whispered to you. His eyes were frantic so that no attention would be attracted. "I promise i mean no harm."
His yellow eyes shined in comparison to yours. Eyes widened at the sight of a blue looking imp in front of you.
Just then, you realized that he was touching you, even if he had his sleeve covering his hand. His skin was still bare.
And as messed up as it was; you were a lot used to your family forcing touch with you.
"Get off-" You pushed him and you witnessed him teleport onto the ground without making a peep. You blinked when seeing him do that.
"Shh! Don't be so loud! See I'm like you! A mutant!" At one time in his life Kurt wouldn't have said that but now, he was proud to say so.
You hadn't said anything yet. Just stared with your eyes wide at him.
"Um..." Kurt didn't know what to say.
"Who are you?" You asked shyly, brows furrowing hard. Eyes squinting. Gaze going to the door every now and then if Alfred was going to come in.
"Um-I-Oh!"
Kurt shuffled the photo out of his trench coat pocket. His heart weighed heavy when he got a look at it. Two baby hands, one blue and the other normal touching, holding each other, not wanting to let go.
Unfortunately those hands did let go.
"My name is Kurt Wagner, my foster parents last name, not sure what my last name used to be, but..." He set the photo on your bed. He stepped back, careful to not let any wood crack beneath his feet.
"I think you're my twin sister."
He watched you stare at the photo, gloved hands hesitantly taking it. Eyes searching over the baby, you presumably and him. Two hands holding. Flipping the picture over revealing the names Kurt & [ ].
Tears breached his eyes.
You were silent for a time. He looked over you and how tense you were. So reserved to let anyone touch you.
"I...don't know what to say...? Why..."
Kurt gulped. His throat and chest hurt so bad. "You didn't know i existed?"
"I didn't...although...I've always felt alone." You didn't know how to describe it. This family was suffocating but you loved them but the loneliness stayed. Sure, your biological dad and brother were here in this house but still...
And now, your presumes twin, who looked like a blue imp in front of you.
"How did you find me?"
"That's why I'm here, and it's only now that I found you."
You glanced at a picture that Tim took. He had ran across the ballroom to get in the picture. You surrounded by the entire 'batfamily' dressed in beauty. And yet it was all so suffocating.
Kurt wasn't crossing your boundaries. In fact, he felt reserved. Unsure. It felt unfamiliar, and yet you wanted to welcome it more than ever.
And he was a mutant too. A meta. Like you, and like Duke. But unlike Duke, Kurt, he was your brother.
You felt a connection with him, and right now, this photo in your hand felt heavy, so very real in your hand.
"Can you tell me?" You asked hesitantly. Was there people like you. With powers and people who look different. People who were different from those like the Justice League and your family. Was there a place different from this place.
Guilt settled in your belly at the thought, but Kurt, a hopeful smile on his face. Sitting on the bed softly, trying not to make noise.
"I can tell you anything you want...especially if you hear me out..."
"Hear you out?"
Kurt stumbled on his words. You and him flushed with embarrassment, hearts swelling at his next words.
"Would you leave with me?"
"Huh!?"
Kurt pulled away, ashamed. "There's a place, for people like us, those ostracized for our looks, for our powers, those of us who've been not as lucky as other metas."
"Partly I wanted to find you, at the fact you could be my sister, but also, this place, can help you control your power. Keep you safer, help you explore yourself."
You were silent, contemplating.
"I can't just leave them..."
"I know...This is a lot im asking of you."
You were silent, looking at the door. "I- my heart wants to believe you. Maybe...I'll dig around my mom's stuff...our mom's stuff if you are my brother, and I'll think about it."
You weren't sure to mention the conditions you were in. The nature of this family. You weren't sure why you trusted this guy so easily.
Was it his demeanor? Was it because he was so much different than everyone else who lived in this house?
"I'm okay with that."
"Really!?" You were surprised. He listened?
"Why wouldn't I be. This is your life, and i can't control you. You just met and I just met you. We can try and find out more about each other."
"Oh..." You trailed off. "It just felt that not many people listened to what I want. Only what they want to do for me."
"Their worried. I can understand...if that's why your family is acting like that."
It's more than that your mind screamed.
"This is my number...and keep the picture." Kurt offered a them.
"I can't!?" Your breathing stifled when you heard feet hitting the floor. They were footsteps you knew anywhere.
"I want you to have it. We can talk later, maybe tomorrow night?" Kurt smiled. Your heart swelled and hands aching. The ache to touch and hold hands.
To hold your presumed brother.
The door opened, you turned to the door to find Duke in the doorway. Bags were heavy under his eyes. Both tired from patrol that early morning, and the guilt that still haunted him.
"[ ], are you okay?"
You turned back to find Kurt gone. Not a lick of him in sight, not even in the darkness.
"[ ]?" Duke's voice startled you with its seriousness. Protective and possessive.
"Just a bad dream, Duke." You breathed heavy as you hid the photo under the skirt of your nightgown. Heart beating fast at what just happened.
"Nothing is wrong at all."
