A panicked shuffling yanked you from your slumber. Through your squinted eyes you could roughly make out the form of your boyfriend scurrying away into the bathroom.
“Tooru? What’s going on?” You muttered groggily, turning to the digital clock at your bedside. 4:27AM?
“N-nothing! Go back to sleep!!” Tooru practically shouted from the confines of your shared ensuite bathroom. You were about to fall into the arms of slumber again until you heard a horrible gagging noise. Oh shit.
Rushing to the bathroom, you’re met with the sight of him hunching over the toilet seat, tears pricking the corners of his eyes as he looked at you with a pained and pleading expression. You wasted no time in pulling away his now scruffy and unkempt hair away from his face with one hand and rubbing gentle circles on his back with another as he continued gagging and spluttering the contents of his stomach. He continued for what felt like forever as you mumbled soft words of comfort into his ears. You could feel his body shaking and convulsing under your touch, poor thing. Your brows knitted with more and more concern the longer that this continued. Eventually, the spluttering and coughing died down to ragged breaths as Tooru slowly gathered his thoughts and turned to face you, sat on the floor.
“I’m sorry for worrying you, I really didn’t want you to see me like this…” He wiped the corners of his mouth with the back of his hand as he gazed into your eyes with sheepish guilt.
“Oh Tooru, it’s alright, don’t worry about me. I just want to make sure that you’re okay, that’s all. Let’s get you back to bed, and maybe you should take the day off tomorrow.” You said as you reached out to caress his shoulder with one hand.
“I don’t think I can afford a day off…”
“Love, how about we talk about this in the morning when your’e feeling a little better. There’s no point arguing on the bathroom floor.” You chuckled as you stood up and helped your boyfriend to his feet, leading him back to the bedroom. As soon as your head hit the pillow, you were out like a light.

The next morning, Tooru’s quiet shivering under the blanket woke you. Concerned, you lean onto your elbow to catch a better view of his face, and your heart drops. He looked so pale, and he was curled up in a foetal position to conserve as much warmth as possible even though it was summer. You checked his temperature with the back of your hand, and your fears were confirmed.
“What… are you doing…” A dazed and groggy Tooru stirred from his sleep from your touch and rolled over to face you, his nose nearly touching yours. He looked into your eyes with such softness, even when he was so sick.
“Tooru, there’s no way you can go work today, your clients can wait, honey.” You crooned, tilting your head.
Tooru rolled slightly away from you in protest and turned to stand up, “I have to, I need to sell the fruit, and find Tamaki Damo, I can’t even trust him to do one thing right, that Josuke guy’s probably got to him already-“
He fell backwards onto the bed, overcome with dizziness. He realised that you were right. Groaning in pain and exhaustion, Tooru had no choice but to give in to your demands and begrudgingly got back into bed.
You’ve never had to take care of a sick boyfriend before, so you went downstairs to get everything that you could think of to help him feel better. A warm damp towel, some medicines, and his favourite green tea. Of course, it has to be in his Elvis mug. It is Tooru, after all.
As soon as you opened the bedroom door holding your items, Tooru’s eyes flitted to you and a warm smile began to grow on his face as he saw what you’d brought with you.
“Aw, you didn’t have to get all that for me, baby” You set the mug down onto the bedside table next to him and placed the damp towel onto his forehead, and gave him the medicine to swallow.
“It’s the least I could do,” You smiled warmly at him as you pulled up a chair to sit beside him. He sat up slightly to take the medicine, picking up the mug. He swallowed the pills with a swig of the tea, and immediately grimaced.
“Ew, tea and medicine do not go well together..” He set the mug back down where you had put it earlier and settled back under the covers.
You shuffled closer to him as he turned to you, cradling the side of his face with one hand, stroking his cheek with your thumb, and holding his hand with the other.
His eyes fixated on yours as he squeezed your hand gently and leaned into your touch. Not breaking eye contact, he brought your hand up to his face to kiss the back. He held the kiss to your skin, lingering in his touch. Your chest filled with warmth at his actions, not daring to break eye contact. The silence between you spoke more about your feelings for each other than words ever could at that moment, the outside world melting away as each second passed.
It was Tooru that broke the charged silence between you, his words barely a whisper, “I’ve never had someone take care of me this way… no one’s ever done this for me before.“ You chuckled with endearment at his words, leaning into to press a chaste kiss onto his cheek.
“I’m here now, and I’m not going anywhere.” He smiled softly at your words, an unfamiliar but welcome warmth spreading through his body.
