The core of this AU is a universe where Vox and Alastor never met. In the absence of Vox/other competition, Alastor eventually moves on from radio and goes into audiovisual. He starts an equivalent of Voxtech after learning tech skills from souls he owns. This eventually leads him to the 'Vees' aka Velvette and Valentino, and he creates a partnership with them.
Alastor becomes a charming and well liked personality on TV by his own merits: his good looks and his charming personality(he still has his curly hair)
Working with the Vees while being so out of his depth(radio) and having to furiously work in order to stay on top (Rather than having Rosie make him the strongest sinner) lets Alastor have a deeper bond with the Vees.
The main story starts when canon Vox is dragged into testing a faulty 'angelic teleporter' that drags him across dimensions into Audiovisual Alastor's universe.
Vox is obviously freaking out over Alastor while Alastor is intrigued by Vox. Alistair becomes jealous of Vox's innate power and sends him back, recognizing that he could quite easily replace Alastor.
Bonus points for when Alistair goes hunting for his universe's Vox, only to find him working in Carmilla's factories as a computer tech.
Cue Alastor having an obsession with Vox that parallels the one Vox has with him in canon.
