How I imagine the banked track is set up at Roller Con
For any other derby people not at Rollercon, there's a few videos up of challenge bouts here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC03mBrJM0BxYgyqVH-tLT-A and DNN is text casting sanctioned bouts, as well as the Vagine Regime vs. Caulk Suckers bout starting in a few minutes.
I'm kind of tempted to start tallying Comic Con and Roller Con posts.
Comic Con is definitely winning on here, but Roller Con is winning on Facebook, at least on my dash/news feed.
Is anyone at Roller Con right now?
I've never been to Roller Con, but from my experience with other conventions, they're simultaneously autistic heaven and hell: Conventions often incorporate a special interest that you get to learn and talk about for several days, you get to be around people with the same interest, and info dumping is fairly accepted, but on the other hand they're very loud and crowded.
One thing that was really helpful for me at a comic convention was a quiet room that you could go to to get out of the noise and crowds for a bit. Being able to recharge there for half and hour or so made a huge difference.
If the convention doesn't have a quiet room, see if you can find a quiet space somewhere near the main area where you can get out of everything for a bit, such as your hotel room if it's nearby. At some conventions, sitting in the back of fairly empty panels is actually a pretty good place to do this!
What have you found helps to get through conventions or similar events?
Who wants to join my "not at Rollercon or Comic Con" geeky derby pity party?
It will involve challenge bouts between fandoms where the uniforms are cosplay, a marathon of alternating TV shows and archived bouts, watching interviews with actors, authors, and skaters, and a roller derby tabletop RPG tournament, followed by a pool party.
Wife just sent me this from RC. Scald, Thunders, Mercy, and Demanda. All on the track at the same time. Ugh.
ROLLER CON!
Tickets went on sale this morning! Who all is going?!
