yeah I’m still enjoying it too, it just was all so sudden. you’d think they would’ve hinted at the big reveal some more. not to mention the inconstancies of Katrina’s backstory.

Before I watched the episode I saw a post about the backstory not making sense, and I have to agree. Didn't Quakers have their own communities? And dress simply? I don't know, I just skimmed wikipedia really quickly.

lol, i was waiting for this reaction. this is by far the worst ep of sleepy hollow. nothing makes sense and I was laughing so hard at that point.

It suddenly got all soap opera. And don't get me wrong, I love soap opera. This was just really unexpected, and ill-fitting, I think. Like I thought the horseman of death was supposed to be a timeless entity who happened to take the form of a Hessian. Not some asshole with hurt feelings. 

(I'm still enjoying the show a lot, though. I want to make that clear.)

i’m only following this whole thing via Colbert and the Daily show, but it just seems unreal. it would make more sense as performance art.

The thing is, that it was clear that the guy was horrible when he started. He was openly racist and homophobic. But he harnessed this conservative, "populist" pro-suburbs/anti-downtown sentiment, and came in with this talk of "stopping the gravy train" and "ending the war on the car" that amounts to being anti-union and anti-public transit. And I am honestly ashamed that voters went for that. All I can say is that I hope his supporters are pleased now. I hope they're proud of the man they selected.

I just listened to it and OMG. It's a pop song. Sounds like Jason Mraz. It does not fit the feel of the movies at all. It sounds nothing like May it Be, Into the West or Gollum's song. O.o

So sorry you're getting blowback about the Lost in Austen question. I didn't know much what it was about when I asked you. :/ Anyway I saw you mention Persuasion is your fave Austen book (and is mine as well!) and I was wondering if you had any theories why Persuasion doesn't have nearly as much of a following as most of Austen's other novels?

I think part of it is that there’s no defining adaptation and part of it is that Anne is a very introverted heroine. Much of the book is built around her largely quietly observing and reflecting on the people around her, her own past, and her decisions. Compare that to Elizabeth and Emma, the heroines of what are probably the two most widely read and adapted Austen novels, who are both very extroverted. Also so much of the romance in Persuasion is quiet longing on the part of BOTH parties that actually involves very little direct interaction. The weight of their history is what gives significance to a bunch of seemingly innocuous things. Which is very different from the charged banter of Lizzy and Darcy or the comfortable friendship (and attendant constant engagement) of Emma and Knightley.
