The Flying Mount and Rolling Stop
I'm a big believer in learning new skills, my age has never hindered my beliefs. Within reason of course. Having gotten swimming to a certain level of comfort, it's time to refocus on the other 2 disciplines. I've always wanted to learn how to mount and dismount while still moving. The professional triathletes all do it with such grace, to shave a few seconds off their time. For me, I want to do it because it looks cool! Ultimate balance and composure, complete control over your machine and body, can't beat that. As always, YouTube to the rescue! I found a step by step tutorial by TriAlliance that broke it down into easy bite size segments. There was also another featuring my fav tri gal Gwen. With those watched, off to the parking lot I went. With my gal, who was learning the proper way to mount. Not flying that is. We were a sight to behold, but we didn't care. She fell off a couple times, so did I. But not completely on our asses. It didn't help that her high school buddy was there, practicing his driving. At one point she yelled at him to move his car, that was funny! I did not successfully flying mount, and my right inner thigh is sore! But I did succeed in the rolling dismount twice, though not gracefully at all. I will keep trying it just for shits and giggles but I don't think these as necessary skills on race day. My legs feel like jelly, not in any condition to fly or roll. I did also practice a necessary skill for climbing, which is pedaling out of the saddle. GCN has a great tutorial for that. Did it a couple times, wobbled only once but didn't wipe out, progress! There's no tutorial or coach that can replace time in the saddle, that's what it basically boils down to. I simply haven't spent enough saddle time on my Synapse. Been focusing on the swim and run. Going to refocus on the cycling. The saying goes "win the bike leg and you'll win the race". I'm not focusing on winning the race, a decent ride will do.
