rolnetsod is something i never knew i needed oh my goodness... drawing more would be really cool of you...

i just woke up and its about shipping so these thoughts wont get any more organized, but,

i personally fw rolnetsod a lot for the simple reason that i see it working and their dynamics are sweet.

netsod: dont need to elaborate much, its popular for a reason and everyone knows chill x uptight is the one of the golden formula. they also go way back, sharing 3 lifetimes together. netzachs very first appearance in lob corp features him teasing yesod.

rolzach: roland literally found a secret hideaway (it doesnt work bc angelas omnipotent in the library but) on the floor of art so he and netzach can fuck off and get drunk together whenever theyre off work. i also just think compared to the other patron librarians roland gets along with netzach the easiest because netzach is a great listener and conversation partner when it comes to the misery of life (which roland has been through a ton of) despite having grown up in the nest. i think roland really needs somebody who just listens and is chill enough to never make the atmosphere tense or uncomfortable when he needs to open up. also theyre both silly and unserious.

rolsod: this one is my favorite to talk about because i recently learned from a friend that its canon that yesod used to be bullied quite heavily by his own employees (the graffiti in the information hallways are death threats and in limbus there is a tidbit where the sinners find a personal belonging of sorts filled with heavy profanities against yesod). i think that explains why he can be a little mean sometimes, he may think its normal to act that way toward someone he doesnt like. but when he was hurting and spat venom at roland, roland acts like a grown adult about it and doesnt take it personally, never even raising his voice or insulting yesod back despite having been called despicable and a dog by the other. instead roland sees through him and says he knows yesod acts like this because his heart is in the right place. i think yesod really needed to hear this as somebody whose prickly exterior was endlessly antagonized and made fun of back then. Especially since i like to think roland thinks its cute yesod is so grumpy and indignant for someone his size (literally like youre 5’5 im not arguing with you bro) and its cute yesod might get really messed up over the fact that someone can find this quality about him endearing and loveable (netzach also evidently does but theyve known each other for ages so yesod assumed its something that had to grow on him, regardless if thats true or not, but yesod has known roland for a much shorter amount of time so). so to me theyre like… a spicy cat from the shelter who hisses and swats at its caretaker and is confused when it receives love in return. absolutely adorable to me.

also i just think yesod has been treated wrong for so long, he deserves everyone loving and spoiling him. and netzach and roland are totally the type to be chill about each other both liking yesod. theyd probably get drunk and start sharing what they like about him, like “duuude… have you seen his little fangs… theyre so cute…” typa shit, while yesod accidentally eavesdrops and doesnt know what to do with himself.

in conclusion. roland and netzach totally fw each other and they both want that purple cookie so effing bad. which is fine bc the cookie has two very holdable hands and it would be really funny to watch him die because he doesnt know how to handle this much affection.

How do you think Roland feels about his relationships with Netzach and Yesod, given everything that happened with Angelica in his past? Do Netzach or Yesod care?

I would assume not, but I want to know what you think

very good question. i personally think any of rolands more intimate relationships with the librarians doesnt happen until way later into the future, or at the very least some time after all the floor realizations where he comes to terms with himself (assuming time flows differently in the library than the outside world and the library doesnt get jumped by the reverb ensemble shortly after the atziluth realizations).

i havent settled on whether rolands feelings toward yesod and netzach are fully romantic? i kind of feel like theyre his fwbs that he cares deeply about and have weird gay moments with sometimes but its like neither fully romantic or fully platonic. “nonbinary love” as my aroace oomfs love to put it. regardless, i think it would be hard for him to feel about any of the librarians the same way he felt about angelica, at least without giving it a few years.

In the beginning, IF its romantic or he is convinced its romantic he would feel massive amounts of guilt over it or loathe himself for getting attached again (do i deserve it? do i get to “move on”? have i not learned my lesson, that attachments in this world only ends in suffering), which i dont explore much in my arts because while i believe it would be that way im really faint-hearted when it comes to consuming or creating sad things. thats for when hes sober anyways. i feel like when hes drunk he throws all of that away to do whatever he likes with netzach in bouts of detached hedonism (that is that and this is this), and he cant stop continuing this behavior next time hes sober and wants to drink again because hes the type of harm himself by toying with his own emotions, to try to feel like hes earned his temporary happinesses but simultaneously allowing the talons of guilt to dig into himself freely knowing hes making the choices to continue this.

its really unhealthy. he would eventually heal and fulfill the promise he made to angelica (to not blame himself and move on) but its a long road to get there.

meanwhile i think both netzach and yesod are very passive about reciprocations. netzach will quickly catch on that roland is going through his own thing and the big questions hanging over whatever they have together can wait indefinitely. he would listen and wait for roland to try sincerely opening up again on his own terms, and he wants roland to know they have all the time in the world for it. yesod is already the type to keep his feelings to himself; he would try to be kinder to himself and allow himself to feel after his arc in lobotomy corp but if he ever learns about rolands dead wife he WILL falter and try to crush his own feelings into tiny pieces and swallow them up again out of guilt. so whatever happens, its likely roland will have to be the one to overcome things and take initiative with netzach first, then the two of them will have to approach yesod about it last. and this will take a long time and theyll all stumble and be stupid and run into problems, which is typical of pm characters with their mountains of trauma.
