The oak trees and flowers moved delicately through the wind as she sat there in the field, dreaming of the stars above. The girl was always fascinated by the stars, planets, the endless creation that surrounded our full being.
The night grew cold but yet she felt warm, this was her home, just this.
Y/N got up to head back to her car, as she checked the time. 11:27 pm. She slept good that night. The bustling city in South Korea was a bittersweet place for her, but she always leaned more to the sweet, it was nice.
"Your late." Manager Hwang scoffed. Y/N fumbled with her I.D while carrying 3 cartons of coffee. "I know, it won't happen again, the line was held back because a machine broke or something." She said out breath while rushing through the offices, Manager Hwang following directly beside her. "Happens again and i'll see you locked outside, understand?" Mr. Hwang said sharply. "Understood." She gulped.
She sighed as she sat down in her office, her head fell forward onto the desk, groaning in whatever negative feeling she was having. Working as a data scientist had it's flaws and what-not, but she it. She opened all her emails, pinching her nose when she saw something that was wrong. She pushed a button on the phone, "Maggie, the data for the visual analysis is wrong, get someone on top of this please." She rubbed her head. A voice came through almost instantly. "My apologies, i'm on it."
This was going to be a long day.
It was dark outside but the city was still busy, why wouldn't it be? She took her keys out and unlocked it, but she saw people with a big truck behind it. "Hey, what the hell are you doing?" She quickly rushed over, her voice mixed with confusion and irritation. The man pointed to the towing sign.
"Please, I was late for work and there were no more open spots, give me grace." She pleaded, exhausted. "You work in that building?" The man pointed to her office, raising a brow. She nodded. "Yeah, you earn more money than i'll ever make in my life, i'm doing my job, you give me grace kid." He scoffed, putting the chain on her car. "No, no, no, no..." She pleaded, no use.
She was left alone on the side walk, and it was fucking freezing. "Great. Just what I needed to finish my day off." She said to herself sarcastically. She reached into her purse, putting on her pink headphones. She began walking home.
Her hands were on her arms, she was deep in thought. Clouds were covering the sky, which blinded those beautiful specks in the endless dark shade. She was looking down at her feet, she couldn't even hear or see the car coming towards her as she was crossing the road.
13.8 billion years ago, the stars, the planets, the galaxies. Compared to the lifespan of the universe, our lives begin and end in a single day.
Her body quickly got pushed to the side by a strong figure, her headphones flying off. Her eyes were tightly shut, her heart racing and throat dry.
"Are you okay?" The soft gentle voice asked, she opened her eyes slowly, looking up. "Here, follow my finger." He smiled softly a bit. She tried but his face was highly distracting. "I can't tell if your concused by that hit I gave you or if your replaying your own fantasy right now." He chuckled.
"Yeah, i'm sorry- i'm okay, really." She stumbled on her words a bit. "Thank you, i've never almost got hit by a car before," She mentally slapped herself as she said that. What the fuck was wrong with her? She looked down to the side to see her headphones broken, "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to hit you that hard-" He rambled. "No, no, it's okay. I really loved these things but they weren't...the best condition." She laughed a bit.
"I'm Heeseung, and you are...?" He had his hand out. "I'm Y/N." She took his soft hand in hers, shaking it softly. "Why are you walking alone at this time of night?" He raised a brow. "I got my car towed." She cringed at herself. "Ouch, that's a bummer, I mean especially at this time at cold in the night that really sucks-" He stopped talking when he saw that look on her face, showing that what he was saying wasn't the best right now.
"Sorry." He cleared his throat. She played with her jacket before speaking, "Why are you walking alone then?" She asked back. "Good question, I was just coming home from the lab, i'm an intern and want to study medicine of some sort." He smiled as he spoke about his dream. "Well, i'm sure you'll do great." She smiled.
Awkward silence filled the atmosphere. "Would you like to grab a coffee? My treat for that hit." He offered, breaking the silence. "I-it's pretty late-" She gulped. "Tomorrow then? Maybe...?" He cut her off, gulping nervously. "Yeah, okay. Tomorrow." She typed her number on his phone.
"Do you want me to walk you home or something? It's pretty dangerous..." He offered once again. She smiled as she heard his offer. "Im good, i'm just down the street. Thank you though." She pointed down the road. "Okay, i'll see you tomorrow then...?" He trailed his words off at the end. "Tomorrow." She confirmed.
Tomorrow came by fast, they had exchanged times and any other information they needed, and currently they were drinking coffee.
"So, what are your hobbies, interests?" He asked, taking a sip of his drink. She played around with her cup, thinking for a moment before speaking. "I'll probably sound like a dork if I tell you..." She chuckled a bit, looking down at her lap. "I'm literally wearing a polka dot tie, what's dorkier than that? You can tell me." He smiled. She laughed at his remark. "Okay, okay...I really enjoy science...astronomy, reading, just being in my own little world, you know?" Her eyes sparkled as she talked.
"Your eyes light up when you talk about that stuff, you must really like it, huh?" He raised a brow again, an almost smirk but closer to a full smile on his face. "I do." She confirmed. "And what about you, Mr. Dork?" She tilted her head slightly.
"Honestly? I like poetry. Writing, reading, listening, whatever. I just think it's a beautiful thing, and i'm good at it." She couldn't stop smiling as he talked. "What do you write about?" She tilted her head more.
"I write about love." He said not firmly but more assured, like he wasn't embarrassed or ashamed about admitting it. "I don't believe in love." She giggled slightly.
"It's not a religion, It exists whether you believe it or not." He looked at her again.
"That's deep, but it doesn't make it true." She crossed her legs. "What if I told you I could make you fall in love with me? Just give me one day, just a day is all I need." He said, in that same tone he used when he was sure of what he was saying.
She laughed, almost as if what he said was a joke, which she thought it was. "Fine. One day, don't expect much." She crossed her arms.
They walked side by side on the busy side walk as they finished their coffee and biscuits. "So, what do you expect in a relationship?" He asked her out of the blue. "If I did get in a relationship, i'd want a guy who doesn't put me before anyone else, you know? Say he was feeling unwell or sick and he was supposed to go on a date with me or something, i'd want him to take care of himself, and if he puts me before his mom that just makes me...ick kind of." She explained.
He chuckled. "Interesting, nobody has said that before." He kicked the gravel under his feet. "You've done this with other girls?" She laughed, her eyebrow raised. "Nah, I just, in my 23 nobody has said that, is what I meant." He readjusted his words. "Ah, I see." She nodded, shoving her hands in her pockets.
"Hey, do you like karaoke?" He asked. "What?" She had a confused look on her face. "Do you like karaoke?" He asked once again. "I-I can't really sing-" She stuttered. "Well, we can do it anyways, let's go." He smiled and entered the building next to them, finding a booth.
He picked Tommy James & The Shondells 'Crimson and Clover'. "So you can sing?" She asked as she sat down inside the booth. "I wouldn't say I can, but that doesn't stop me from doing it anyways." He looked at her, adjusting the mic.
The moment the sweet melody fell from his lips, you were addicted, the sweet mantra taking over all your senses. You felt lost in space, like your body was floating. He looked into your eyes as he sang.
"I, now I don't hardly know her, but I think I could love her. Crimson and Clover..."
"Your really good at singing." She said amazed as he finished. "I know, I just didn't want to freak you out if I told you I was the same level as Ariana Grande." He joked playfully. She rolled her eyes, smiling. "Have you been to an observatory?" She thought of an idea. "Once, I was like 4 though, don't really remember it." He said, thinking.
"Come on, you'll love this." She grabbed his hand excitedly, dragging him out and to one of her favorite places in this universe. They both ran in, smiles on both their faces. "Come on, we don't want to miss it!" She said enthusiastically. They both layed down on the couch that was almost like a bed, to look at the ceiling. The room went dark, and images, projections, appeared above them.
"Did you know there are three hundred billion stars in the milky way?" She asked, still looking at the images. "That's andromeda, that faded speck, right there." She pointed. "And andromeda has more than a trillion stars in it, just inside that small blob, they all shine together." Her voice filled with passion. "It's a beautiful thing." Her eyes sparkled again.
He turned his head to look at her. "I don't think i've ever met anyone like you before." He murmured softly.
She never met anyone like him either.
They went to the park, walked a long the bridge, tried foods at the local market. "The lovelock bridge? Really?" She crossed her arms. "Yup. Typical? Cringy?" He asked while buying a lock.
"Admirable, maybe." She took a sharpie, righting her first initial on it, and he wrote his. He placed it in an more isolated space from the other locks. She looked up at him. "I'll give you 10 dollars right now, you have another lock with a couple girls." She laughed.
"You'll have to pay up then." He chuckled, handing out his hand, expecting the money. "Your serious?" She questioned. "100 percent, pay up." His chuckle grew.
She bit back her smile, reaching into her wallet and placing a 10 right into his palm. "This was a one time thing, by the way, i'm not making a bet again." She put her wallet back. "Sounds good to me." His laughter eventually died down.
The wind blew again softly through their bodies, her hair blowing in front of her face but not bothering to move it out of the way, he gulped and tucked it behind her ear. "I know I said i've never met anyone like you before...but i've also never seen anyone as beautiful as you, God.." He whispered.
She flicked her eyes down to his lips, then to his eyes, then his lips again. "You can kiss me, if you want." He murmured softly.
"I...I don't know how...i've never kissed before..." She said quietly, almost ashamed. He brought his hand up to her cheek. "That's okay, I can show you." He leaned in slowly, his eyes on her lips.
Their lips met gently, softly and so beautifully, like it was just meant to be. He tilted his head a bit to help make the kiss deeper, her heart felt like it would explode or drop any moment, what was this feeling? Little did she know he was feeling the same thing, he was just better at hiding it.
His other hand reached behind her neck softly, and her hands rested on his chest, just a few seconds later, he pulled back. He looked into her eyes, smirking slightly. "Wow." He said breathlessly. "Your the one saying wow? That was one first kiss..." Her fingers lightly brushed against her bottom lip.
"Heeseung!" A females voice cut through the moment, making you step back almost instantly. "Hey baby! It's nice to see you here! I know we have our date tomorrow but I couldn't resist saying hi anyways." She smiled, while yours dropped. She kissed his cheek and grabbed his arm gently, then looked at you. "Oh, you must be his sister, i'm Songyeon!" She said bubbly. Heeseung wasn't saying anything, but it looked like the color completely washed out of him.
"Don't call me, don't contact me, don't do anything with me. I don't know what the fuck you thought I was doing or who I am, but you are a dick." Y/N pushed him out of the way with her shoulder before walking away.
"Fuck is her problem? Did you guys have a fight? Hello...Heeseung?" Songyeon snapped her fingers infront of his face.
2 days have passed, messages from Heeseung kept showing up on her phone. "I'm sorry, there was a misunderstanding, please contact me back?" or "Please Y/N, I had an amazing time with you, please give me a change to explain :(" She sighed again, placing her phone down on the bedside table.
"Why did I even try." She laughed at herself almost, she felt stupid, like an idiot for thinking she actually felt something, that foreign feeling to her people craved. "Y/N?" There was a faint knock on her bedroom door. "Come in." She groaned in the pillow. Her mom came in, "What's with the face? Usually you'd be going to the field by this time or something." Her mother chuckled, brushing hair out of her face. "I'm fine, just feeling a bit under the weather." She lied a bit.
"Do you need some soup or something?" Her mother asked softly. "No thank you mom, i'm okay." She smiled. "Okay, if you need anything, i'm just downstairs." Her mom pressed a gentle kiss to her head before leaving.
She was out at Han river, her hands on the railing, the wind still blowing through her hair. The cold dark night was soothing to her this night for some reason, the clouds were gone, and the stars were bright tonight.
"You know, you really shouldn't be out here alone, it's dangerous." That same voice interrupted her thoughts. She turned around, seeing him standing there. "How did you know I was here?" She crossed her arms. "I went to your house but your mom said you weren't here, and I knew you liked this place, you told me at the cafe." He breathed out.
"You remember?" She asked softly. "Of course I did." He gulped, "I have something for you," He reached into his backpack, pulling out her pink headphones, now fixed. "My headphones...you took them to get fixed?" She took them, smiling slightly. "No, I fixed them." He licked his lips. "Why?" She asked, gripping the headphones.
"Because to me, you are like music, you are beautiful, addictive, I could listen to you talk over and over again and put you on replay, to me, you are what music is to you, or stars, or...or whatever it is your so passionate about." He breathed out again but tried to not stutter over his words. "I just met you last night and I already love you, I want to be the one to show you what love is, I want to be the one to introduce you to that feeling, I...I want to show you that's it's more than just a fantasy."
He kept going. "That girl, I'm telling you I-I never ever had a date with her, it was a one time thing 3 months ago, just to see and it didn't work out, she's crazy, please believe me, I never ever met to hurt you. I would never do that to you, ever." He clenched his fists. "I really really like you...maybe even more."
She looked into his eyes. "I want to...I want to feel that too, but I don't know what it feels like o-or even if I did, if I knew it was right. I'm scared, i'm really scared, I -"
"Hey, hey." He gently stroked her cheek with his thumb. "It's not going to be easy, but i'm willing to wait and try." He looked at her, his eyes flickering between both of hers.
"I-I think...my heart is racing...and my knees feel like they'll buckle...my stomach feels weird and my body feels hot...a-and I only see you...what is that...?" She asked softly, putting her hand over his that was on her face.
"That's the start of us." He whispered, leaning in to kiss her again. Their lips moved together, almost as passionate as the first time, if not even more. "Then I think I love you..." She whispered.
He stared in her eyes again, "I love you too ." He said before kissing her again.
"So, do I get a prize?" He smiled, raising a brow. "A prize? This is your prize, right here." You looked up and down your body, laughing.
"Sounds good to me." He kissed her hand, intertwining them, and walking along Han river, laughing and smiling under the night sky, and with all the stars that people share with the galaxy, the universe, whatever is out there, these two shared the same fast beating of their hearts.
