Sketch for the @Buzzcocks poster for their @riot_fest show last month. Thankfully Lou @garage_land let me use the idea for a different date. I had been looking at a lot of old comic book covers and trying to see where to go next as far as style. Comic book covers are great because they are basically rock posters - but(t) smaller. I really enjoy the weird dramas they try to convey, the crazy colors and the way they handle type. Especially artists like #JohnRomita the same guy I was praising when I posted the #QueensoftheStoneAge #poster. I had no idea what the fuck I was going to do. So I tried to make life more difficult by peeling off all of the skin on the lady. That really hurt my brain because…well…I find drawing that stuff difficult to do. I’m happy when it’s done but I’m a big baby while I hafta figure out how to make the #anatomy work. I wanted to take the original idea of the cover in a different direction. And yeah I was looking at a lot of #CharlesBurns the quality of his #inking is what I strive for in every piece I do. This poster took twice as long to finish because I wanted to really push myself in a new direction. It’s painful. I complain and whine. But I’m hoping that pushing myself further will make my work better. Or I’ll just crawl underneath my drawing table, curl into a fetal position and rock quietly while I guzzle some tears. #PMA all day. SWIPE to see the other sketches.
