maybe i'm just being prissy but whatever direction they're going with lian seems not the greatest thing to me. i mean, i GUESS she can go on a cliche "i'm not my parents, i'm me" teen journey. that's fine. but it just seems to me that they're not doing actually doing that, and just pushing her into jade's side of things rather than carving something for herself.

and it's not that i dislike jade, i love her as a character! but what sense does it make for lian to "find herself" when it just seems to be being influenced by jade. the mask, the name, now that new teen titans suit with the classic jade spiky stripes. is herself just someone who emulates her mother who you know. is an assassin. and terrorist. for money not Reasons.

it could be said it's just aesthetic wise, but she's barely been with roy, and had no rekindling with the Titans and almost no interaction with her family out of williamson's run and condo's short one. and they also are changing her to be the annoying rebel teen archetype a bit? add that to the cheetah and cheshire rob the jl stuff, and the looks not good.

you could say they're going for antihero, but compared to her participation in fighting against a fascist surveillance state during catwoman? whatever woke, girlpower kind of thing rudka tried to do was just flat. the fact that lian suffered no consequences just makes it seem even more like it's treated as just a teen acting out, rather than a decision with weight and significance. this doesn't seem like lian making her way, she's just. doing things. for what. anyway i don't dig it

man, this got me feeling things. the grief that comes with getting part (or all) of you taken away by circumstances out of your control and/or others. the anger the sadness the feeling of helplessness. none of which are helped by the constant reminder of what you once had: those memories never fade, your brain craves it back against everything. your brain is all you have left from before. the same thing that keeps reopening those old wounds. the destruction of your self by what does not care about you or what you want or care; and the following self-destruction that comes as a result, because you so desire to return to yourself and hate what you've become. enduring the aftermath of someone else's actions forever, with nothing to possibly remedy it. helpless. (at least until you build yourself a new sense of self)
