Episode 69 - Just a Second (Season)

On this episode of Nerd & Tie, it’s all about second seasons.  Supergirl‘s been renewed for one, Daredevil‘s has now premiered on Netflix, and Attack on Titan‘s has been delayed. Besides that, we discuss the announced fifth Indiana Jones film, Space City Comic Con lawsuit, and new developments in the Geek Girl Chicago/Ron Ladao incident.

And we’re all adults. We can see the episode number. Let’s move on.

Last month "Geek Girl Chicago" blogger Lauren Faits described an incident from 2003 involving photographer Ron "Soulcrash" Ladao. Recently more information has come to light on the matter.

PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE say that you're currently working on a follow-up piece to the Ladao situation given the new evidence that has come to light???? (Curse Tumblr for not allowing me to put links in asks)

We’re going to post an update linking to the video, but I’ve watched the thing repeatedly now… and if you consider what if looks like from her point of view, it actually matches pretty closely to the version of events she has posted on her blog right now (her order of the timeline is a little off, but that’s it). 

People keep saying it “disproves” it, which makes no sense to me. I see a guy who is repeatedly told to stop filming, is sworn at and asked to leave, and then breaks back into the room. 

When you look at it from GeekGirlChicago’s point of view, that video actually kind of backs her story up more than anything.

And yes, it’s easy to see the Ladao isn’t trying to be as malicious as it might seem only looking at her point of view, but he still crossed lines and didn’t care about it. He seemed irritated to be asked to respect the privacy of his roommates.

There’s an instinct a lot of people have to view this as a black and white situation, but OF COURSE it’s not. And yes, the decade old memory of Geek Girl Chicago is imperfect – but her making errors in recollection doesn’t change the way she felt in that moment.

So yes – we’ll add a link to the video in our original post and let people judge for themselves. But I don’t think it shows what Ladao thinks it shows, and I hope people have the empathy to see both points of view.
