(WDSU) NEW ORLEANS — #RonaldGasser has been found guilty of manslaughter in the shooting death of former NFL player #JoeMcKnight in #Terrytown in 2016. He faces up to 40 years in prison on the #manslaughter conviction. He could have faced life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder. Gasser was originally arrested in the December 2016 shooting that his attorneys called a road-rage incident gone bad. Authorities have said McKnight and Gasser drove erratically and yelled at each other in a traffic confrontation before the shooting. Investigators said the confrontation took place as the men traveled over the #CrescentCityConnection in #NewOrleans and onto roads in a neighboring district. Defense attorneys said Gasser fired in self-defense when McKnight approached his car after the confrontation. Prosecutors said Gasser falsely claimed McKnight tried to lunge into Gasser's car when it was stopped at a traffic light. They say physical evidence indicates he made no such aggressive move. #Speakin4Myself

TMZ Sports has obtained a photo of #RonaldGasser moments after he shot #JoeMcKnight ... and the witness who took the photo says he WAS yelling at McKnight's body after the fatal shots were fired. The person who took the photo says the item on Ronald's blue Infiniti is the gun he used to shoot the ex-NFL running back. The witness -- who is NOT the same person who spoke with NOLA.com -- says she heard the two men arguing on Thursday afternoon ... while she was visiting a nearby business. The witness says she spoke with officers at the scene and gave them her information but hasn't heard from them since. After the shots were fired, the witness says she distinctly remembers seeing Gasser over McKnight's body ... and heard him yelling at the downed football star, "I told you I was going to f**k you up." She says Gasser was pacing back and forth with his gun in his hand for a few moments after the shooting ... and then put the gun on the trunk of his car. The witness says Gasser then took the gun and put it inside of his car while waiting for police to arrive. When cops arrived, we're told he calmly informed officers the gun was inside his car and was cooperative. We reached out to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Dept. for comment but haven't heard back -- however, officials are adamant Gasser did NOT fire a shot while standing over McKnight's body.

He says Gasser used to work for the police force. Despite witnesses saying Gasser shot McKnight as McKnight sat in his vehicle unarmed & then pulling McKnight's injured body out of the car onto the ground & shooting him again, Sheriff Normand says the witnesses were wrong & it didn't happen 🤔

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department confirms that no charges have been filed at this time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Sheriff’s department admits that Gasser, without a doubt, shot McKnight but there are “questions about the circumstances surrounding what led up to it.” Gasser was released because investigators say they had no reason to hold him any longer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The shooting occurred around 3pm in #Tarrytown, La. A witness who declined to give her name, says that she saw Gasser yelling at McKnight at an intersection before shooting McKnight, who could be heard apologizing. Gasser then stood over McKnight’a body and said, “I told you don’t you f— with me,” before firing again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Gasser remained at the scene until police arrived. Authorities say he handed over his weapon without further incident.
