Ronan O’Rahilly. Passed away age 79. I met Ronan approximately in 1968 at The Casserole restaurant opposite his living accommodations in Paultons square. Back then, The Cassarole restaurant was one of the most fashionable place to be. Ronan and I would see each other regularly until he was moved to Ireland into a care home. I am very saddened to hear of his passing. He was a character of Chelsea, a great promoter of music. Caroline was closed down by Nicolas Ridley Secretary of State via the Dutch authorities who smashed up all of Ronan’s equipment. Ronan & Nicolas Ridley met in my shop 16 Pont Street SW1 (now agent provocateur) by chance, both came in as clients. When Ronan saw me cutting Nicholas’ hair, Ronan went for him. They had a tiff in my Salon. They both remained my clients. Pirate Radio Ship Caroline was named after JFK’s daughter Caroline. Ronan was a big conspiracy theorist on JFK’s assassination and with JFK being of Irish heritage, Ronan was a fan. May Ronan’s efforts and endeavours live on for a very long time. I hope when the virus has passed the Chelsea Arts Club will hold a memorial for him which he truly deserves. Found memories of Ronan will always remain with me.
