Happy TMI Tuesday! Is there anything that little Rond’theron absolutely refuses to eat?
Rond'theron sat in his booster seat at the table, arms folded over his chest and a pout on his face. At his side, Mal'valen sat with a spoonful of sugar snap peas held out towards him, and an expression somewhere between boredom and homicide.
“Please. Just one bite,” the half-elf requested, his voice more hoarse than usual.
The little half-Draenei boy shook his head defiantly.
“I know you like sweet things. These are sweet peas and they’re very tasty,” Mal'valen rasped.
Big, golden eyes narrowed at his father. “How do you know?” came a surprisingly icy retort in a tiny four year old voice.
Mal'valen sat up straight, his own eyes growing wide as he was taken aback by the statement. He had a mind to leave the boy sitting there for the rest of the night without anything to eat but a large pile of peas, but that wouldn’t really be very fatherly of him.
Pursing his lips, the priest sighed quietly through his nose. “All right,” he responded. “If you won’t eat this, then let’s get ready for bed.” Yet another green vegetable he won’t eat. I suppose I’ll have to add this to the list, he thought. The idea of sending their child to bed without supper was rather heart-wrenching for him, but he recalled the technique working when his parents used it.
Sure enough, the boy’s eyes snapped open and grew misty. “But I’m hungry!” Rond'theron whimpered. “And I want a cookie…”
Slowly, Mal'valen lowered the spoon, reaching out to take the little boy’s chin in his gloved hand. “If you eat ten peas for me, you may have one cookie,” he stated in a stern tone. “But any less than that and you’re to brush your teeth and head straight to bed. Got it?”
The boy gave an eager nod, then looked at his plate. Disgusting little green balls of ickiness rolled around on it, and he wrinkled his tiny nose at the thought of having to put them in his mouth. Heaving the heaviest of four year old sighs, he picked up the first pea and scrunched his eyes closed tightly as he popped it into his mouth and began chewing.
Mal'valen leaned in, watching closely as Rond'theron ate - he could practically see the gears turning in the boy’s head as he came to the realization that even though they were nasty and green, sugar snap peas were as sweet as their name had suggested. As the boy’s eyes opened once more, the priest sat up straight and smiled down at him - a loving sort of gaze, not the kind of smile that says, “I told you so.”
“Aomaho?” he called out, looking back to the living room where his partner was reading quietly. “Would you go fetch the cookie jar for me?”
((OOC: The short version of this is that Theron won’t eat anything that isn’t sweet, so Mal, Ao and Katie have been struggling to find foods he enjoys.))
