Send me ϟ for a stormy day
(x)
The storm kept him awake.Usually, at this hour, he could cozy into the hollow of a tree, but the heavyrains pinned him on the slick bark of a pine. His thin leathery wings couldn’tbear his heavy, water-soaked fur. Concerned and twitching his ears, heopened his mouth and chittered to view any nearby danger, airborne or otherwise.
On the ground, giants roamed, and he was glad to be out of reach. One giant stood at the base of his tree, which worried him some. Another walked out beyond the edge of the orchard, andit was so strange to his ‘sight’ that he hardly believed it could be alive. Itgave off strange signals, electronic hums and whiny whirrings like the machinesof giants.
Two more large, pale figuresapproached, but fortunately one changed course to, like the machine, roam outsidethe orchard. That left the fourth, and the first together beneath the tree. Heturned his beady eyes downward. Why were they out and about, when the stormusually drove them all inside their wooden caves? He’d hidden in one of thosecaves before, under the eaves and in the warm, perfectly bat-sized spaces. Theyshould return there, and leave him alone.
Below him, the giants talkedin their slow, deep voices. He found them sluggish-sounding, not practical and chirpylike his critter calls when they lit up the landscape. Yet the rumbling murmurslasted a short time before the shouting began. The smaller giant yelled at thetaller. Their pulses and breaths raced, and his sensitive detections warned himto expect a mighty battle of the colossi raging in the storm.
But the altercation didn’tcome. The voices calmed, quieted, and the taller giant leaned against his tree. After a moment, the smaller giant leaned too. He felt their breathing steady, the hearts slow, but still thump through the veins of their limbs and up intothe fibers of the tree. He feared that they would revert to screaming atany moment, until a different sound floated up to him.
Not the bright, boisterouslaughter he sometimes heard through windows, but a low, tense chuckle exchangedbetween the two giants. He tilted his ears back and forth. The giants hadleaned away from his tree. The taller offered an arm, and the smaller refusedit. They walked, to his delight, away from the tree, and the two patrollinggiants redirected to shadow them on the path back toward the wooden caves.
He evidently hadn’t been theonly one to expect trouble that hadn’t come.

Appropriate to tonight’s RP.
This was not my joke ( wingsofblue made it), but it was too hilarious not to share.
There’s a triangle of ‘I’m watching you’ going on between Keialaar, Kyreal and Veriinya right now, and... hee. This is great.

"Help! I've lost my bird!" #VandyPrompts
It was too early for this.Again. Zimina rolled over and opened her eyes to Miryn’s ghostly stare. Thespirit leaned right next to the bed and pouted at her. “My bird! You have tohelp me find it.”
At least it wasn’t pancakes. After several failed attempts at waking, and at least one appearance fromKyreal to ensure that all was well, Zimina stumbled out of doors at Sun’s Peakto help Miryn find her damn bird. Though the living woman asked severalquestion about what the bird looked like, the best she could get out of Miryn was, “He has adumb face like Kyreal’s.”
For the best, probably,Kyreal had been asked to wait at the house. Zimina felt fairly certain thisentire enterprise was a scheme to secure some time alone with her, so Miryncould chatter about anything she wished.
Certain, at least, until theyreached a dead tree at the outskirts of Sun’s Peak, and a ragged, dark wingedcreature peered down at them.
“That’s it! That’s my bird!Isn’t his face dumb?”
“Miryn, that’s a vulture.”
“I think he’s amazing. Can Ikeep him?”
Zimina rubbed her face andsighed.

✭ what is one of their favorite items?
(by zrimgor!)
Zimina has artwork from Rond'theron, Kal'theraa's half-draeneison, with her everywhere she goes. He drew her two cats, Eduard and Valentina, and enchanted the paper so that when stroked, it makes a comforting purringsound.
When she's stressed she'll listen to it. She also shared it withKyreal, as a way to introduce the concept of small pet cats (and with the hopethat Kyreal would meet the little critters one day).
Does Zimina have any plans to try and find out who Kyreal was before her death, or would both of them just prefer not to know?
In her conversation with Idra, Zimina learned that Kyreal’s soul was taken from a collection of unnamed and forgotten fallen. In essence, from those who died and were never identified or claimed by living relatives.
What they know is that Kyreal’s soul is old. Very old. However, they are not certain if Kyreal was male or female in life, and Kyreal remembers only flashes of images that don’t answer any real questions.
When Zimina communicated Idra’s information to Kyreal, Kyreal (understandably) became very upset, but eventually accepted it. Later, Zimina offered to perform the Last Rites for Kyreal, if she wanted to be removed from the construct and be at peace in the Light for good.
Kyreal declined and chose to stay soulbound.
There are no plans to try to discover more about her past.

Following these events.
“Are you certain?” Seriol stared at the schematic on his desk, reaching blindly for the cut-crystal decanter. He had told no one about the dreams; there was no one he could confide in. He had never had friends at Auchindoun, and with Idra gone, the closest ally he had was perched on the edge of the desk frowning at the level of wine in the decanter.
“Quite. Astriid went on about it at length. It seems that Gamelon promised her that if the Kyreal was successful, she would lead the next project. But he reneged on the deal.” A slender finger with callouses that had nothing to do with the genteel work of an Auchenai tapped the data tablet, opening a new screen that showed the construct's head design, faint lights indicating data points where the user could pull up finer detail. “She didn't know the working name on this one, but she was able to get the design schematics.”
Seriol's hand trembled as he poured a glass of wine, the crystal clinking against the glass. He knew those horns, knew that face. He'd been seeing it almost every night in his dreams.
“Does it matter?” Valaasca's voice was as gentle as her hands when she took the decanter from him, setting it down on its tray with a clink. “You should be preparing for your Trial, not mucking around with the Artificers...” She paused, taking a deep breath. “You're drinking an awful lot, and you look like hell.” Ever since the rumored death of Soulbinder Idra, he had been acting strangely, drinking more wine, murmuring to himself.
“It matters. Are you questioning my judgment?” His voice was soft, and his eyes lifted to her face. Whatever she saw there made Valaa look away, her expression tight.
Idra's enemies were circling, and he had to establish his own power base before they swallowed him up. He returned his attention to the datapad, his fingers tapping on the schematic. The face of the construct zoomed into focus, lines of neat text on either side detailing power needs, circuitry and other minutiae that held no interest for him. All of his focus was on the sightless green eyes, the ones that whispered to him in the darkness.
Why he was seeing her, he had no idea, but the connection to Idra was unmistakable. “I need an appointment with Gamelon.”
“Your schedule for today has already been arranged.” Her brow furrowed as she reached for the data tablet, intending to pull up his roster.
“Make it happen, Sakena.” His voice cracked like a whip as he settled back into his chair, settling his robes around himself. “I will see him before sundown.”
Swallowing, she nodded, scooping up her data tablet and clearing away the schematics with a swipe of her thumb. “Briina is assigned to the Artificer's offices this week, I'll go ask her to make an opening.”
Seriol picked up his wineglass and drained it in two long swallows, ignoring his daughter as she gave him one last glance and scurried out the door. In his mind's eye, he could see the construct's glowing green eyes and distinctively shaped horns. Confiding in Valaasca on why the artificers were important never crossed his mind as an option. She was his daughter, but she was also an Irennellar; and he could not be completely certain that the family had not gotten to her, created a conflict of loyalty. He had grown accustomed, over the years, to this solitary existence, but there were days when it was a heavy life to lead.
Help me, I need you.
I'm coming, Idra.
