Rags to Riches...
Welcome back everyone! Hope you had a great weekend. We’ll not talk about the game here :)
But we will talk about the next show we’re announcing for our 10 Years & Still Flyin’ season, as well as a new partnership that will ensure we keep our standing as the best place for original theatre in southeast North Carolina.
Ron Hasson is not only a terrific actor (and recent winner for Best Actor in a Play at the Wilmington Theatre Awards) but he’s also a prolific playwright. Ron has had many original works produced in Wilmington in the past few years - at the Browncoat alone there’s been One Up, Severe, and Cast Party - and championing the playwright is something that’s very near and dear to his heart.
That’s why he founded Page 2 Stage Unlimited. This group of writers, directors, and performers are exclusively devoted to creating and nurturing original works, as the name says, from the page to the stage. They hold regular performances of monologues and shorts at Cameron Art Museum, as well as staged readings of in-progress works to help with their development.
Wanting a more permanent space to call home, and with us always looking for original scripts, Page 2 Stage and the Browncoat have joined forces. Last year’s Flora & Fauna was the first full-length production of this partnership, and they also organized and produced Amazing Wonder Shorts to close the season out. This season, 3 of their plays will take the stage at the Browncoat: the previously announced Greedy and Wolfhunt, as well as...
How We Are Rich, by Ron Hasson
Continuing his habit of bringing challenging original shows to the Browncoat, Ron’s script asks the question: In a crisis, what instincts do you trust? The play explores the first world struggles to survive on a backdrop of a blackout and apparent street riots. Characters form and break alliances and try to re-invent the rules of the game in the midst of the anarchy.
And knowing Ron, that only scratches the surface of how deep and complex a story he’s telling. Want to find out more? How We Are Rich breaks loose in June 2017.
More exciting news to come as we continue our 2016-2017 announcements! Come back tomorrow to learn even more!
Break legs,
Nick
