Alvvays, “Your Type"
Went to see Alvvays tonight despite rather steep tickets for only knowing about three of their songs...
..two of which they played. But what stood head and shoulders above those and all others was this track. Pure fab.
I hadn’t even known they were Canadian. But they seemed to tap the same home heartstrings as Sloan, to similar effect, for better and worse (crowd chorus carrying...).
For the record, opening band Room307 was what I’d call pot rock. Pleasant enough at any given stretch, but stretch the songs did, without any sense of propulsion or purpose.
Alvvays had some issues, like a muddy mix at times, but when they clicked, they were very sharp. I need to look ‘em up more.
