"Moving in is a big deal.”
“It's not,” Rin responded.
You looked over at him while he pretended to focus on the game replays from that afternoon's practice.
“Do you really mean that or are you just trying to prove you're better than my boyfriend?”
Rin flinched slightly at the word boyfriend. Something you only caught because you were focused on him.
“Ex. And I don't need to prove I'm better. I am.”
You giggled softly, pulling your knees to your chest so you could set your chin on them to keep observing Rin.
He glanced over, eyebrow cocked at your ambiguous giggle.
“Sure, Rin. But you've been saying all the right things since he's been trying to win me back. Either you like me or you're flexing in really weird ways.”
Rin scoffed, but muted the TV before settling into the calm quiet between you.
“Move in with me,” Rin's words were barely audible.
“Yeah, right,” you laughed, reaching for the remote.
Rin caught your wrist, eyes locking with yours. The quiet calm rolled into an unfamiliar tension as his thumb began to move back and forth over your knuckles.
“I'm serious,” Rin spoke up.
You swallowed the lump of nerves in your throat. You'd never felt anything but comfortable with Rin. So why now did you feel like there was something more stirring inside you.
“Why?”
Rin's expression was thoughtful as he worked through the feelings screaming in his head, further enforced by the pounding of his heart.
“Tch. So lame. I don't want to see you cry again. I…I won't make you cry if you move in with me…If…How can you not know that I like you?” Rin's thoughts ran past his lips before he could stop them.
His entire face flushed and he immediately looked away dropping your hand at the same time.
“Oh. So, you like me. You wanna love me and kiss and hug me,” you sang out, teasing him to make things light again.
Rin pulled you into him, your song cut off as you tried to slow your breathing. Being this close to him with no other reason than he wanted you to be was messing with your head.
“Yes. Yes. Yes.”
