_1. ROOMSETTING
How to plan a Roomsetting in 5 days
Three eager women, one challenge. To create a new corner room setting. One week before we go to know the separate steps in the planning process and created a room setting on our own. This was really challenging and we felt quite some time pressure. Despite the preparation week the expectation was to hand over a finished / thought through plan in a group to present at the end of the week.
In this final project of the 3 months block at IKEA we had to apply the whole knowledge we gathered within our first the intense 12 weeks at IKEA. The main steps are: _ Discuss the work brief with Sales _ Come up with an inspiring story _ Create a moodboard which is “on point” and a visual guidance for the whole process and furniture / material / surface choices _ Sketch rough ideas _ Spatial analysis: Allocate main activities / customer flow _ Rough layout with furniture blocks / walls where needed _ Furniture: More clear furniture in layout _ CAD: build the space, add furniture, create elevations and export plans _ Furniture collage _ Choose materials and surfaces _ Render different views on CAD prints (perspective, elevations) _ Prepare the plan package and presentation
Luckily Sharon, Flori and I could deliver everything despite my absence of two days when I was ill. Our team managed to work together really smoothly. Since we all have different strengths and often take different roles in a group we managed to split the different tasks and separate the workload in a good way which was also quite efficient in my eyes. I definitely learned a ton during the last 2 or 3 weeks. Such a good feeling to realize that we came a long way in just 12 weeks and to see / test the learnings in a compact way before heading back to school.
