So, I have two very old tablets (circa 2014), one I will repurpose for being just an e-reader and maybe media player and the other one idk yet, but probably an e-reader with nothing else since it's very small.
Now, none of them support google or most pages properly. Is there any way I can download things? The way you in a computer terminal can do a sudo--- and get things from internet into your device. I'm guessing I'm gonna have to jailbreak it or smth but I don't mind, I just want to know how can I get the most out of that tablet, I don't expect it to work netflix. Just a browser that's half decent and maybe an app for something I could need (like one to calibrate the screen since it's not a function it has natively and it is a problem it's having).
For now I've thought of downloading an apk in a computer and then move it inside the tablet from there and then install it, but I'm sure there must be a better way.
They both run on Android ice cream sandwich, 🍨 4.04 the most recent, if there's any way to update it to 4.1 I'd be very grateful but I'm assuming that's something the hardware isn't able to? It's the version I need to work my favourite book reader in there.
I can't tell the android version of one of them because the touch screen doesn't work properly, i need to change it. Both of them have been factory reset.
I don't mind getting some light linux distribution and slapping into that bad boy if that means it'll work better, if a friend could install it to his switch so can I. Maybe making a partition or smth idc I just want to make these boys live to their full potential.
I will save the screen for future projects I still plan on building a cyberdeck this summer or when the time comes.
