A Pointless Argument
Tommy Shelby
Warnings: mentions of smoking and drinking
After an upsetting discovery, (Y/N) storms out onto the grounds of Arrow House to have a word with her husband.
“Why is it always you?” (Y/N) asked as she approached the table and chairs that Tommy was sitting at.
“Why is what always me?” Tommy asked her, barely opening his eyes to look at her as she stopped in front of him. He didn’t even bother to sit up from his lounged state; his hands still clasped over his stomach and his head resting against the back of the metal chair.
“You always take the last scone in the morning, Tommy…always,” she told him, her distaste for the situation clear in the words she spoke.
“Who’s to say I took it, hmm?” he defended himself, still not sounding like he cared a great deal about the problem at hand as he shut his eyes again, “it could’ve been Charlie…could’ve been Anna,” he then tried to throw the blame onto their children.
“It was you, Tommy, and I have proof that it was,” (Y/N) stayed steadfast on her point, taking her argument a step further as she was ready to back it up with evidence.
“Yeah?” Tommy opened his eyes again so that he could look at her; to see if she was bluffing. She looked pretty serious at the moment, and he was wondering if he’d be able to get her to cave this time.
“Yes,” she nodded definitively.
“What’s your proof?” he asked her, his eyebrows raised.
“Frances told me that you asked her to bring it to you in your office this morning. You ate it with your morning tea while you were reading the newspaper,” she outlined her evidence, making sure to add as much detail as she could.
Tommy let out a sigh as he stared off at the treeline of changing colors. “I should probably hire new help now, eh?” he asked her then, his sudden question catching (Y/N) off guard.
“What? No…you can’t fire Frances,” she told him, an incredulous look now present on her face.
“She’s sold me out too easily,” he gave his reason.
“She only told me what I already knew,” (Y/N) defended the woman who worked for them. “Besides…” she trailed off then as she moved even closer to the seat that Tommy was sitting on. She nudged his thigh with her knee, making him sit up properly in the chair so that she could sit on his lap. “I’m rather happy that she actually got you to eat something…it’s been at least a week since you’ve had proper food,” she said as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders so that she could steady herself on her new seat.
“I’ve eaten this past week,” he tried to defend himself.
“A few mint leaves does not count as proper food, Tommy,” she disagreed with him, a ‘you’re being serious right now?’ look on her face.
“There isn’t a problem with eating mint, love…” He stayed steadfast on his viewpoint, “makes my breath smell good.”
(Y/N) couldn’t help but giggle at his statement. “You can eat anything you want, Tommy…your breath’s still gonna smell like cigarettes and whiskey,” she told him in a matter-of-fact tone.
Tommy rolled his eyes at her comment before he hooked his hands around her waist. She rested herself against his chest and got comfortable as they enjoyed what would probably be one of the last warmer autumn mornings.
“I will say that I like it though,” (Y/N) said softly after a few moments had passed.
“Hmm?” Tommy hummed, opening his eyes only slightly to look over at her.
“The way you smell,” she clarified, “with all these years we’ve been together…it reminds me of home now.”
The corner of Tommy’s lips curved upwards before he pressed a kiss to her temple. “You smell like home too, love,” he mumbled into her hair before inhaling the sweet, calming smell of her shampoo.
(Y/N) smiled as she curled her fingers around the collar of the shirt he was wearing. Some more time passed by silently before she spoke up again, “I’m still not happy that you ate the last scone,” she mumbled while picking at the threads of his waistcoat.
“I thought we were finished with the pointless arguments,” Tommy sighed, knowing all too well that he would not be hearing the end of this for the rest of the day.
Summary: Four moments of bliss in Tommy’s life set in autumn
A/N: this is a very late participation to my sweet @runnning-outof-time 2k celebration, congrats again!! I got the title from the lovely song Autumn Leaves (Edith Piaf’s version) but the story doesn’t have anything to do with the song, still listen to it because it’s beautiful :) I don’t really have anything else to say so, I hope you enjoy this (at least, I had fun writing it!)
oh and thank you to my @choreosmania for giving me your feedback on the story, you’re really worthy of the ‘only poutine eater I don’t want to punch’ title <3
Warnings: this is literally just fluff for the sake of it (so beware of the immense amount of fluff ig)

It was early in the morning. Too early for the sun to cast its warm shade over the land. Too early for the birds to sing. Too early for Tommy to be awake.
But he lay on his side, eyes wide open. His troubled mind never let him rest more than a few hours at once. No matter how exhausted he was, no matter how much he wanted to.
Tommy considered the idea of getting up and turning his lack of sleep into productive work. It’s what the businessman in him kept whispering.
And then, Tommy turned towards you, soundly asleep. Lying on your stomach, your mouth slightly agape, it made your husband smile. Leaving the bed—leaving you suddenly seemed like a very foolish thing to do.
Instead, he brushed the hair framing your face. His calloused hands grazed your warm skin and he found himself incapable of stopping.
Very gently, his fingers trailed down your neck, your shoulder, your spine and a smile stretched his lips as he felt you shiver. You moved, humming but your husband’s feather-like touch didn’t seem to bother your peaceful slumber.
Tommy closed the distance between you. He played with your hair as your head rested on his chest. He brought the blanket over your shoulders, reveling in the contact of his fingertips with the softness of your hip.
He observed the night slowly making place for the sun to rise, a subdued light filtering through the drapes. Tommy thought he could wake you up— you loved to see the sunrise. But as if you were reading his mind, you nuzzled closer, a contented sigh leaving your lips.
For a moment, he asked himself if he was still dreaming. The quietude reigning seemed surreal. So quiet, so calm, even his screaming mind seemed to respect the peaceful intermission.
Your soft breaths fanning over his skin, your cold fingertips—always cold no matter how hot the rest of your body was, your hair tickling his chest. He would have sworn it was some twisted wraith, playing with his deepest longing if it wasn’t for your hand safely resting on his waist.
The idea of leaving the bed came back and this time, there was no hesitation. Tommy lazily kissed your forehead, sliding back under the covers.
Business could wait.
Fiery leaves crunching under your steps, the biting cold softened by the warm October sun. The sweet summer time was bidding goodbye, slowly welcoming autumn and its honeytoned afternoons.
It was the perfect weather for a family walk in the gardens.
Tommy was finally home after months spent in the hospital and thankfully, the doctor forbade him from working which meant a very well deserved holiday— even though said holiday almost cost his life.
Ruby was very excited to have her father all to herself and when she saw the piles of fallen leaves, she couldn’t resist. She asked and asked for a walk with her parents just so she could jump in the dreamy hills of red and orange.
So after her nap, you got her dressed and even allowed her to put her new white gloves on. Tommy was already outside, enjoying the warm weather as his little girl came running, shouting his name.
You watched your overly excited daughter jump and run, grabbing leaves and crunching them, a tender smile brightening your features. Your hand firmly holding Tommy’s, you strolled through the manor’s grounds, enjoying the dazzling rays caressing your skin.
“Are you alright, darling?” you turned to him, observing his tired eyes.
“Just a headache.”
“Mommy, mommy, look,” Ruby’s chirping voice interrupted you. She blew a cloud of fog in the air, “I’m smoking, like daddy!”
You giggled as she repeated her action.
“You’re like me, eh?” Tommy asked, a teasing smile fading the exhausted traits.
Ruby put her tiny fists on her hips and with the deepest voice she could attempt, she replied “Yes, I’m a grown-up. Bring me whiskey and don’t use my pens for your drawings.”
The resemblance was uncanny. It was really hard to keep a straight face as Ruby went on “I have work to do, no game tonight,” she pouted— just like her father.
Tommy feigned hurt and you decided to help him a little, out of mercy “Well, I guess you can’t carry her anymore if she’s a grown up. She can walk.”
Your last comment seemed to shake the ‘grown up’ out of your Ruby and she turned to her dad, using her most efficient weapon: the puppy eyes.
“No, daddy. Look, I'm not a grown up! You can still carry me!” She ran back to Tommy, hugging his waist.
Your husband glanced at you, a smile gracing his lips. He bent down, lifting his little girl in his arms.
With his other hand, Tommy brought you closer to him, earning him a gentle kiss on the cheek.
“At least she got your talents for impressions,” you whispered to him, playfully.
“Yeah, she’s her daddy’s girl for a reason.”
“And now let’s open the gifts!” Ruby exclaimed, clapping her small hands together.
“But we didn’t eat the cake yet!”
“No, gifts first, mommy!” You smiled fondly at your daughter’s impatience as Frances brought a few neatly wrapped boxes.
It was Ruby’s birthday, the yearly reminder that your little baby was growing up and didn’t plan to stop. You had managed to convince Tommy to come early tonight— although it didn’t take much convincing to celebrate the three of you together. A bigger party was planned the next day with all of Ruby’s cousins and the extended family but tonight, you wanted it to be just you.
A squeal erupted from your daughter as she discovered the beautiful toy horse her father had chosen for her. Before you could even realize, you were lovingly attacked with hugs and kisses.
Ruby sat on Tommy’s lap, enjoying the comforting embrace of her dad. He presented to her another box and helped her with the tightly knotted bow.
“Look at that, Ruby!” your husband took out the doll and handed her to her new owner, “What will we be calling her, hm?”
Ruby thought about it for a second— it was indeed a crucial decision and almost screamed “Katie!”
She repeated her doll’s name softly, caressing her blonde hair.
“Do you like it, daddy?”
“It’s a beautiful name,” Tommy answered with absolutely no hesitation, “Just like yours, my darling.”
You watched the two of them, your heart swelling at the sight of your husband arranging your daughter’s long locks. Ruby had grown to be her daddy’s little girl through and through. A part of you felt a little jealous that he got all the precious attention but nothing could compare to the joy of watching Tommy grow with her.
You never doubted he would be any less than a wonderful father. And every moment observing them was proof of that.
“Mommy,” Ruby ushered, poking your arm. She gave a not very discreet look towards her dad and you nodded knowingly for tonight wasn’t just Ruby’s birthday.
After years spent by his side, Tommy had never wanted to celebrate anything apart from your anniversary and your birthday. You knew the reason and respected it. But your very stubborn daughter— she got that from her dad— decided that no birthday should ever be forgotten, no matter the reason.
“What’s going on?” your husband asked as Ruby precipitately left the room.
“We have a little surprise for you,” is all you said.
Ruby came back, hiding behind her back the small gifts you had both gotten.
“Happy birthday, daddy,” she proudly offered him the drawing she spent hours making, using her best colors.
Tommy gazed at you, confused but still accepted his present. It was a drawing of the three of you, Ruby in the middle and you holding her hands. “That’s me and there you are, daddy. You’re the king and mommy is the queen and I am the princess,” she pointed at each of you as she spoke.
“It’s gorgeous, Ruby. Thank you,” Tommy kissed her cheek, promising to keep the drawing in his office.
“Now it’s your turn, Mommy!” she nudged you, waiting excitedly as you gave the other present.
It was a golden ring engraved with your three initials. You wanted to offer it for your wedding anniversary but Ruby insisted her dad had presents for his birthday as well, so you chose to give it to him a little earlier.
You put the ring on Tommy’s finger, above his wedding band and he squeezed your hand. “Thank you,” he cleared his throat.
You observed him longly, a pinch of guilt making you quiet. Ruby was so excited to include her father in the celebration you didn’t have the heart to tell her he hated his birthday. But maybe you should have been more firm with her…
“I’m sorry, Tom,” you whispered to him as soon as Ruby was occupied playing with her toys. “She asked me the other day and when I told her I didn't know, she asked Polly. I thought it would be enough but then Polly told her you were born around the same time as her and she insisted we did something for you as well.”
Your husband shook his head, bringing you closer to him. “You did good, it’s alright.”
Tommy sighed, glancing at the ring on his finger.
He didn’t always hate his birthday. There was a time where it meant having cake and getting new shoes if the year hadn’t been too rough. His mother always made it special, even if they didn’t have the money for a big party or for a sumptuous feast. She even got him his white poney.
But that was the last thing she ever got for him.
There was no point in celebrating anything after that. What did he have to celebrate?
There was no rest, no peace, too much happening all at once to the point where the mere thought of it was ridiculous. It was just another day in November after all.
But as they all sang and ate too much chocolate cake and laughed until his heart burst with joy, Tommy realized.
He had his girls now.
The clock ticked softly and the fire crackled in the hearth, accompanying Tommy’s nightly work. He had to study some numbers for a board meeting the next day and although he only wanted to lie in bed with you, he couldn’t detach himself from his task.
You had gone to bed with Ruby half an hour ago, quickly passing by the office for a necessary goodnight kiss.
By now, his sweet girl was asleep and you were probably struggling to stay awake— you wanted your goodnight kiss too.
But tonight’s ritual wasn’t as thoroughly respected as the previous nights.
Tommy dropped his pen, hearing tiny footsteps walking closer and closer until…”Daddy?” Ruby whispered, shyly entering the room.
“What’s going on, love?”
“I can’t sleep…” Tommy gestured for her to come closer. He sat his daughter on his lap, his knuckles grazing her cheek. “I want a story.”
“Mommy didn’t read you one?” he asked curiously.
Ruby hesitated for a moment. “She did…but she doesn’t make the voices like you, daddy.”
Tommy chuckled, kissing his daughter’s forehead.
“Alright, what do you say we go to bed together and I read you another one?”
He felt her nodding against his chest. Tommy finally gave up the very important work— but for even more important matters and carried his Ruby upstairs. He grabbed the book on her bedside table but instead of putting her in her own bed, he walked out of the room.
“What do you say we teach mommy how to make the voices, hm?”
Ruby replied with a smile, gladly enjoying the unusual bedtime.
“What’s going on?” you asked as soon as Tommy appeared, carrying your daughter inside.
“She wanted me to read her a story.”
“I already read her one, Tom.”
“I know,” he dropped Ruby on the bed. “She said she wanted me to do the voices.”
You shook your head, trying to suppress the growing smile. Your husband— no matter how firm and cold he could be with anyone— struggled with keeping his usual steadfastness with his four years old daughter.
“She isn’t supposed to sleep in the bed with us, it’s a bad habit,” you tried to scold.
“Just this time.”
“Yes, mommy, just tonight,” a light voice erupted from under the covers.
You sighed, defeated.
“Fine.”
Tommy mimicked Ruby’s content smile.
“But just tonight, then everyone sleeps in their own bed, deal?”
They both nodded, Ruby hurrying to hug her father. She grabbed your hand, playing with your ring— a small habit she got as a baby.
“Alright,” Tommy cleared his throat, opening his arms for you to slide in as well. “Once upon a time, there were three bears…”
This little story is to celebrate @runnning-outof-time’s amazing 2k followers milestone. Super congrats K darling! You deserve every single one of them, and many, many more! 😘

Pairing: modern!Alfie Solomons x fem!reader
Prompt: My dog yanked on its leash and now I’m lying in a giant pile of leaves and you stand there and laugh and STOP TAKING PICTURES!
Warnings: none apart from Alfie appropriate bad language. Pure fluff!

Dog Walk
“Come on, Alfie. It’s too nice a day to be stuck in the house!,” cajoled Y/N as she tried to convince her boyfriend out of his armchair and away from his history books.
He huffed. “I’m fucking tired, woman! I’ve been at work all fucking week and then Tommy fucking Shelby waltzes in on Wednesday and shits up my whole fucking organisation! Does a man not deserve to rest and recuperate in the comfort of his own home with a fucking book if he chooses?!” He fixed her with a stern expression but she simply frowned back.
“Alfie, it’s the end of September. In a few weeks it’s going to be cold and miserable for the next four months. It will be dark in the mornings and dark by teatime. And when that happens, you can retreat into full hermit mode, and hell, I’ll gladly snuggle up there with you.” She paused as his lips curled in appreciation of this proposed state of affairs.
“But right now,” she continued, voice gently wheedling, “right now, it’s crisp and cool and gloriously sunny. The leaves are on the turn and the woods will be beautiful. So please…PLEASE.. can we just take the sodding dog for a bloody walk?,” she finished, hands on her hips as she stared down at him.
Cyril, hearing the ‘W’ word, began panting with enthusiasm, stubby tail thumping against the carpet.
“Well you’ve done it now, ain’tcha. Poor blighter thinks he’s going out now,” Alfie grumbled, pointing at the cheerful mutt at his feet.
“Well, I’m not the one trying to break his heart, am I?,” she replied, leaning down to pet the bullmastiff’s silky head. “I’m not the one who’s trying to deny you a W-A-L-K, Cyril baby,” she cooed as she scratched his favourite spot behind his ears. “No I’m not. That would be daddy. Who’s too selfish to take you for a glorious autumn stroll.”
“Oi!,” shouted Alfie indigently, catching Cyril’s attention and he snorted in response, sounding uncommonly like his dad. Y/N stifled a giggle - they do say that owners and their animals resemble one another after a while.
“What you fucking laughing about?,” he grumbled as he reluctantly heaved himself out of the chair. She grinned and clapped her hands together briefly before she shot off to gather what they would need for a walk. As she left she could hear him muttering to Cyril about bloody women and being much put upon. She rolled her eyes, she was well used to the bark but (at least towards her) no bite of the infamous King of Camden Town.
Well… not entirely ‘no bite’, she reflected with a grin to herself. He had been known to bite but only bit in the ways that made her head spin and her knees weak.
A short while later they parked up at the woods. For a crisp, sunny, autumnal day, Y/N was surprised not to see more cars but perhaps people had decided to venture even further afield to enjoy the weather before it changed.
It was chillier here than in town, without the ever present London smog inflating the temperature. She shivered a little and wrapped her scarf a little tighter around her neck, tucking the ends into her coat. Her breath billowed out in front of her, mist dancing in the air for a moment before vanishing.
“It’s colder than a witch’s tit out here,” Alfie complained, rubbing his hand together. He was not, it was fair to say, nature’s biggest fan. He missed the smell of fumes and piss on the air. The smells of his childhood, of his whole life really. The smell of Camden. The great outdoors were for other people. Strange people. Like the Shelbys.
“Stop being so dramatic,” she teased and he harrumphed. “It’s only slightly chilly. You’ll be fine once we get going,” she mollified him, wrapping her arm through his as they set off, Cyril trotting along beside her, the lead in her other hand.
They picked a path at random and set off at a casual stroll. Sunlight dappled the forest floor, highlighting the ochre yellows, carmine reds and deep russets of the leaves around them. There were still clusters of green, some trees and bushes still clinging to the last vestiges of their summer foliage. Bright red rowan berries drooped heavily from branches, a feast for the birds and other small creatures of the woods.
Somewhere, someone was burning leaves, the smoke wafting on the breeze, evoking images of bonfires and fireworks. Halloween and Bonfire Night celebrations. Y/N breathed it in contentedly. She could practically taste the cinder toffee on her tongue.
They walked in a comfortable, thoughtful silence, even Alfie rendered quiet and contemplative for once.
Until suddenly Cyril saw a squirrel.
He shot off in pursuit, paying no mind to the fact he was still on the lead. Although he was a docile sweetheart in temperment, he was all muscle. A heavy, powerful animal. And at that moment all that power was being directed at the squirrel and Y/N couldn’t keep him under control.
She shrieked at him to stop but he didn’t, dragging her behind him at a run, until he tipped her balance as he broke free of her grasp and she landed in a heap of leaves.
“Fuckin’ hell!,” shouted Alfie, hurrying to her side, worried she had hurt herself. “You alright there, dove?,” he asked, voice full of worry.
She nodded as she got her breath back, checking for damage to anything beyond her wounded pride. “No, I’m fine,” she confirmed breathlessly, and satisfied she was ok, he leaned back, fishing for something in his pocket.
He produced his phone and immediately started taking pictures of her in the leaf pile.
“What are you doing, you prick?! Help me up!,” she cried, gesturing rudely at him.
He laughed a deep, throaty bellow and didn’t stop snapping.
“Alfie! Your dog yanked on its leash and now I’m lying in a giant pile of leaves and all you can do is stand there and laugh… and will you STOP TAKING PICTURES!,” she shouted indignantly, pushing her hair out of her eyes, encountering leaves, tangled in her waves.
He was practically wheezing by this point, no longer capable of photography because his hands were on his knees as he got his breath back.
“Sorry, treacle. But you’re the one who wanted to go for a walk,” he finally replied, still a little out of breath, as he pocketed his phone and put his hands out to help her up.
She stood with as much dignity as she could muster, brushing leaf detritus from her jeans and coat. He carefully removed a number of crisp brown oak leaves from her hair, smiling softly, dark blue eyes creasing at the corners. He cupped her cheek and kissed her softly, pulling her into his chest.
“You sure you’re not hurt?,” he asked as their lips parted and she nodded.
“I’m fine… where’s the dog though..?,” she suddenly realised, head turning left and right searching for Cyril.
Alfie bellowed for him (she quickly covered her ears - that man had years of practice of being heard over machinery and she liked having eardrums, thank you very much) and after a moment, Cyril trotted out from between the trees, lead dragging behind him.
He did not look in the least bit contrite.
“Naughty dog!,” she scolded him but entirely undermined the sentiment by fussing his brown head. Alfie rolled his eyes. She had a lot to learn about effective dog ownership.
“Shall we go home before we have any more adventures?,” she asked and he nodded.
“Also, I know I looked a state, but why so many photos?,” she queried, poking him in the side, as they set off the way they came, Alfie holding Cyril in a firm grip.
“So if you have any more bright ideas about spending time in fucking nature again, I can remind you how much of a bad fucking notion it is, my love,” he replied darkly but his lips were twitching, fighting off a grin.
“Arsehole,” she retorted, slipping her small hand from his large one to link her arm through his and lean up to peck a kiss to his cheek. “You love it really.”
He huffed in response, glancing at her. Hair wild and still scattered with pieces of leaf, eyes bright and cheeks rosy from the cool air. She was even more beautiful than usual.
And he supposed - not that he would admit that in a million years - that maybe, just maybe, she was right.
I really hope you liked it K! Congrats again 😘
And I hope the rest of you liked it too! Please do let me know what you thought in all the usual ways! Everything from reblogs to anon comments all gratefully received ♥️
For @runnning-outof-time 's autumn milestone celebration.
Congrats 🎊
May do a second one later when @staff fix whatever is not making my posts show up on tumblr

“How is it in your country this time of year?” he asks as they just stay in bed the entire morning. He shifted slightly until she was tucked her under his chin.
It was cold this morning, a completely normal cold autumn day for her husband and her new family, but too fucking cold for her and an ill omen had it happened in Mexico.
Here it means that the shop gets opened later, that she’ll be wearing Tommy’s flannel pajama button down shirt while her husband has no other choice but to wear the bottoms despite the fact that he hates wearing clothes to bed.
We’ll end up naked either way, why bother wearing clothes, love, he likes to say as he slips her sexy nightgowns off her shoulders.
There was snow outside and even wrapped in Tommy’s arms with a fire lit, Eva still feels a bit of a chill.
This had ended up with Tommy telling her about how to cure hypothermia, a treatment she was very receptive to and hopes he can indulge her with before he has to go downstairs for work.
“Rains a lot, but even the coldest day there might pass as warm here.” Eva wished she could be there now, be there with Tommy in the cool rain even. “Sometimes we will get hurricanes and floods or earthquakes.”
Or foreign invasions or decade long civil wars.
“But it has its charms, we have independence day on September 16, the day of the dead in November 2nd, the harvests in the farms, the butterflies arriving in Michoacán before winter and Delia spoiling me with sweet breads and hot chocolate when I was on holiday from school.”
But her life is here now and the gates are closed to her forever.
“I thought you hated organ meat.” He says and she can see his amused face in her mind’s eye.
“Oh, I’ve always hated pancreas and liver meats, I mean sweet bread like scones and cakes.” She explains and being unable to find the English word for it. She knows the French one for it. “Like brioche, oh its on the tip of my tongue and I just can’t fucking remember it.”
“The word for that is pastries, love.” He supplies helpfully trying not to chuckle. “Forgetting words again, Evie?”
She used to hate speaking in English, now she’ll have to speak it for the rest of her life. All because she had the audacity to fall for an Englishman.
At least I'm not American, he says and she laughs.
“Mmm, you make me forget how to speak English with how good you are to me, mi vida.”
For @runnning-outof-time K's 2K follower celebration. Congratulations, darl!!
When John goes on a stag hunt he encounters a mysterious woman around the campfire one evening. He offers her food and refuge from the wilderness, but soon learns she's more dangerous than any threat lurking in the woods.
I just discovered this song in a autumn playlist and this little scenario came to my head as well as @runnning-outof-time theme for her 2K Celebration! I hope you like it, dear 😘
K! Congratulations on 2K!!! 🎉🙌🏻 I hope you get a lot more 😊
Can I request something with this prompt? For Tommy
“Look me in the eyes and repeat what you just said.”
Thank you so much for sending this in, Mar!! 🥰 I hope you like that I did with the prompt.
Thank you for helping me celebrate hitting 2K followers! Want to read more blurbs from this celebration? Check out this post!
Some Good News
Tommy Shelby
Warnings: none
(Y/N) comes to Tommy with news that she’s been holding in for too long.
“Where is he?” (Y/N) asked as she rushed through the rooms of the Shelby Company Ltd.’s office.
“Tommy’s in his office,” Lou, one of the secretaries, answered, knowing exactly who the other woman was referring to.
“Thank you,” (Y/N) didn’t even stop, hurling her thanks out as she continued on to the door at the end of the lobby-like room. She didn’t even bother knocking, and instead opened the door and walked right in.
“(Y/N)?” Tommy asked, confusion in his voice. (Y/N) also noted that Michael was in the room, but that didn’t hinder her desire to go forward with what she’d had planned from the second she arrived back in Birmingham.
“Yes,” she blurted out as she walked across the room to where he was standing behind his desk.
“Yes what?” Tommy was even more confused by her single word declaration.
“Yes, I will marry you,” she elaborated, not breaking her stride until she stopped in front of him, “I shouldn’t have made you wait so long after you asked, but with everything going on at the derby and then when they took you, and then Polly told me what might have happened, and I thought I’d never see you again, so I felt guilty about not giving…”
“Woah, hold on, (Y/N)…” Tommy cut her off, stopping her rambling before she could even finish it, which was good for her because she had no clue where she was going with her babbling. “Look me in the eyes and repeat what you just said.”
“All of it?” she asked sheepishly, wondering if she’d need to repeat her previous statement in its entirety.
“No,” Tommy shook his head slightly, “just the first part of it.”
(Y/N) couldn’t help but smile as she hooked her eyes onto his. Tommy had a smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he waited intently for her to speak again. She took a deep breath and exhaled it slowly before doing so. “Yes, I will marry you,” she told him, her voice staying steady as she spoke.
“Yeah?” Tommy’s question was rhetorical in nature. He’d just heard her say that she would, multiple times actually.
“Yes,” (Y/N) confirmed it again anyway, her smile growing wider. “I should’ve said yes the second you asked me. It was dumb of me to stand there and not give you an answer…it all happened so fast though.”
“That doesn’t matter, you’ve answered me now,” he brushed her off, letting her know that she shouldn’t keep beating herself up for how she initially reacted.
“Are you happy?” she asked then, not realizing how stupid that question sounded until it left her lips.
“Of course I’m happy, love,” he answered with a slight chuckle, “it’s nice to get some good news like this after all that’s happened today.”
“I’m so happy that you’re ok,” she sighed as she moved forward to wrap her arms around his torso. She just couldn’t stop herself from doing so any longer.
“I’m always gonna be ok, (Y/N),” he mumbled into her hair as he held onto her tightly, “I’m gonna have you by me side for the rest of me life now,” he added after she pulled back slightly to look at him.
Unable to wait any longer, (Y/N) leaned in and pressed her lips to Tommy’s in a passionate kiss. She was able feel Tommy’s grin against her lips, and it only made her grip onto him tighter. She couldn’t believe that she was going to marry him.
“I guess Michael left,” she said, then exhaling a breath after they pulled away.
“Good,” he answered, his grin still present, “he didn’t need to see any of this anyway.”
(Y/N) couldn’t even respond because Tommy’s lips found hers as soon as he finished speaking.

Something Keeping You Up?
Tommy Shelby
Warnings: none
(Y/N) decides to go into Tommy’s office late one night to find out for herself why he hasn’t joined her in bed yet.
She’d already put on her nightgown and had her hair pinned up out of her face, but (Y/N) wasn’t quite ready for bed yet. It’d been tough getting to sleep these last few nights, and she knew the exact reason why. Tommy wasn’t in bed with her.
She figured it was just the business he was dealing with on the first night. After the second night, she thought that maybe his meeting got pushed back a few days. Now, Tommy was going on his fifth night of staying in his office well past the time that his wife put their three year old to bed.
Sure, helping out with Charlie’s bedtime routine wasn’t an everyday thing that Tommy did, but partaking in her routine was something he did nightly. So now that he was absent, she felt like she was missing a part of herself.
Tonight, however, things were going to change. She’d become adament on that. So she made her way to the wing of the house that held his office and knocked gently on the door. His muffled response telling her to come in came short after, so she did just that.
“Having trouble sleeping?” Tommy asked her as he took his glasses off and sat them down on the pile of papers he’d been working through.
“As a matter of fact, I am,” (Y/N) answered him as she walked into the office.
“Something keeping you up?” he asked another question, his brows furrowed.
“Yes,” she didn’t even try to beat around the bush.
“What is it?” he sounded slightly worried now.
“You’re not in bed with me,” she gave her answer almost immediately after he was finished speaking. Tommy raised his eyebrows as he heard his wife’s complaint. She decided to elaborate more on her initial statement, “you always come to bed with me, but you’ve not come in once this entire week,” a slight pout formed on her face as she then asked a question in a hushed voice, “are you tired of spending time with me?”
(Y/N) was afraid to hear his answer. She knew that she was probably overreacting to the situation, and that he was probably just tied up with his work, but she couldn’t stop herself from wondering it. And once she was wondering it, she knew that she could either continue worrying about it and let it fester, or she could come right out and ask him about it.
Tommy was shocked by her sudden question, and the worries she expressed with it. “I could never get tired of you, love,” he told her, his voice unwavering as he spoke with sincerity.
“No?” she timidly checked to make sure, hating that she probably sounded like a small child as she said this.
“No,” he affirmed, shaking his head for extra effect, “I’ve been putting more time into checking over these acquisitions that the company has taken on. Ada’s given me some idea on them, but I can’t be too sure, so I wanted to look over it myself,” he explained the reason behind him being locked in his office until such a late hour. “I’m sorry that I’ve made it seem like I’d rather be spending time on this instead of with you,” he added at the end.
(Y/N) couldn’t help but smile as he spoke. Just him affirming the fact that she was overthinking this whole situation turned her night around. Tommy sat back in his chair then and pushed his thumbs against his eyelids as he let out a sigh.
“Tired?” (Y/N) hazarded a guess, hoping she was still able to read his non-verbal cues.
“Very,” he agreed with her, the strain in his voice emphasizing the fact.
“Why don’t you come to bed with me?” she then suggested, her one eyebrow quirked as she finished speaking.
He dropped his hands to his lap and looked over at his wife, making her think that he was thinking over his options for a few moments. “That doesn’t sound half bad,” he then told her, his decision making her smile.
“Perfect,” she said, giddiness apparent in her voice. The sound of it made him smile. “Come to bed with me, Tommy Shelby,” she said to him then, and that was all he needed to stand from his chair and take the hand she’d stretched out in his direction.
“Gladly, (Y/N) Shelby,” he responded with a grin as he allowed her to lead them to their master suite.
