Here two bamboo species form a great landscape feature with Chimonobambusa tumidissinoda (walking stick bamboo) to the left arching over the path to meet Phyllostachys viridiglaucescens (green-glaucous bamboo). Both are vigorous species that are described as being able to form thickets that can spread indefinitely. To prevent this invasive growth a strong root barrier has been placed around the plants and can be seen at the edge of the path.

Today's work: breaking up old soil and implementing a root barrier to the side of the hedge, mainly to keep the ground elder out (see photo below). I also dug up old (dead) tree roots (see photo above). Next step will be digging up the rest of the future flower bed. Still a way to go, before I can plant new herbs and flowers... #gardenwork #diggingup #rootbarrier
