It was a particularly nice spring day in the countryside, the sky a spotless deep blue as the scent of blooming grasses and flowers permeated the morning air. Henry stepped out through the squeaky gate of his rental home and tilted his head back, stretching out his slightly sleepy body while his akita Kal flew through the gate. Henry smiled, seeing his dog happily zipping through the tall grass next to the narrow dust road and he stuck his hands in his pockets as he started to walk.
It had been a weird couple of months. The COVID-19 virus had meant the immediate stop of all his plans. His work. His holidays. His visits to friends and family. And so, for the first time in years, Henry had all the time in the world to just…be! And mind you, he actually kind of enjoyed it, his once busy jet set lifestyle now very average. Dare he say, normal even.
Like every morning he walked down the path, throwing the same stick as Kal raced past, catching it. And like everyday he waved at Mrs. Gatter, who lured at him through her blinds, her wrinkly fingers quickly shooting back to tending her plants, acting as if she didn’t even notice Henry. Henry suppressed a smile as his eyes wandered further down the road, Kal but a blur of black and white in the corner of his eye.
Work work work ^^
Cleaning the garden. Kazuha's comming over for a Picnic 🍓🍽
Today's work: breaking up old soil and implementing a root barrier to the side of the hedge, mainly to keep the ground elder out (see photo below). I also dug up old (dead) tree roots (see photo above). Next step will be digging up the rest of the future flower bed. Still a way to go, before I can plant new herbs and flowers... #gardenwork #diggingup #rootbarrier
Ok so here’s the story.
Recently there are some problems in my country - lets focus on one for now:
The tree massacre caused by recent law changes called “Szyszko’s law” or “Lex Szyszko” after our Minister of Envronment Jan Szyszko.
Long story short - the law allows people to cut down any trees if they are growing on their private land.
Yes - if you own a land you can cut down even a hundreds-years old tree without even informing the local authorities.
That is if you don’t plan any investment on that piece of land (but you can sell it to someone else who does - go figure).
In the end within just few months there were THOUSANDS of trees cut down.
Some people went rampant and still broke the law by cutting down trees that didn’t even belong to them.
To add more salt the Minister Szyszko fails to see this as a problem (this guy publicly states that environment is to be managed and not protected as the Bible says the man is supposed to “subdue the land”).
The law is still going to be changed but it’s been stuck at “work in progress” since February and the massacre continues.
Therefore I decided to make a change - however small it’d be.
First - in February I found some old (at least 3 years) pine seeds I kept in a jar and planted 7 of them.
Five of them sprouted after a bit over a week and grew steadily under cover.
Unfortunately 2 didn’t root properly and despite my best efforts withered when I started watering them regularly.
This leaves me with 3 pine saplings from the first picture (I didn’t name them as I am still worrying how many of them will survive).
Secondly - doing some gardenwork I noticed a large number of maple trees have sprouted - unfortunately for them - on the flower bed I was going to work on.
Sadly I had to destroy them. I did however choose one of them and replanted it in a small pot I brought home.
After two weeks it seems to be growing nicely. It really likes the place I chose for it and started to grow a second layer of true leaves as you can notice on the pictures above.
Thus I decided it’s the time ‘it’ became ‘he’ and I named my little maple tree.
From today on he’s called Bolvar and I really hope he’ll grow to be a strong and a beautiful tree.
Maybe it doesn’t show but these are real tight. Don’t dare to bend over much 🙈
Long time ago I had these 30-32’s on but their stil comfy . It’s not normal how fast these weeds grow
