In The Country ○ Intro/Open
We’d both just figured out exactly what the Camerata had been doing, or at least, trying to do. Wonder if it was worth it. Now all there was to do was go find Royce and see if there was anything we could do to stop the Process. There was really no hope for our town anymore, and I think Red knew it too. As we flew out over the bleak skyline I could see her grimace. Tried to give her some comforting words, but there’s no way to know if they made any headway. Not like she could say so.
Just as we made it to a strip of white blocks I noticed something pink blurring to the side of our path.
─[ Red-! Watch out! Red!!! ]╢
Her fingers must have slipped. I could have sworn I saw her turn our cloud around and come after me, but whatever pulled me away must have closed off. I must have been falling for a good five minutes. I couldn’t see anything so all I had to focus on was what had happened, but I blacked out before I could really settle down.
When I woke up the sky was blue again. It’d been the first time in a few days since I’d seen anything like it. No grid. No fake anything. But no Red either. I had to get back to her and fast. She was tough but the Process were ruthless and, without me; without the Transistor there wouldn’t be a lot of time. But Royce had stayed hidden all this time so there was still some left.
A shadow caught my attention. It looked human, or at least it had legs like one. Too blurry to tell.
─[ Red? Is that you? Hey! I’m over here! ]╢
Couldn’t get that lucky.
─[ Wow. Look at you. You’re a person. Hi. ]╢ ─[ I don’t mean to be a pain in your ass, but could you get me out of here?]╢ ─[ Being stuck in the ground is kind of cold. ]╢ ─[ By the way, your shirt looks nice. ]╢
Was I being a suckup? Yeah. But I was about to be asking this person for a lot of favors. If getting back to Red meant laying it on thick then that’s what I’d do.
